Are you a lover of all things art? You’ve probably been to New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and many of the other art hot spots in the country. But here’s one location you may not have considered: Provo, Utah.
Brigham Young University’s Museum of Art, located in Provo, Utah, is one of the hidden gems of the art world. It is home to some of the greatest and thought-provoking pieces of art the world has ever seen. Fun and educational for the whole family, BYU’s Museum of Art has something for everyone, allowing visitors to experience art with their permanently-housed collection.
Upcoming exhibitions at the art museum include Supermarket: Pop Art and 1960’s America, showcasing American life, and the style of advertising during post-World War II. Take in some of the most famous pieces of pop art by the likes of Ed Ruscha, Lichtenstein, Warhol, and many other transcendent artists. This exhibition will begin on December 6th, 2019.
Whether it is your first time visiting the museum to catch an exhibition or a regular patron who just can’t get enough of art, here is a guide to help you plan your visit to BYU’s Museum of Art.
Where to Stay
Excited to visit the museum, you are probably searching for hotels in Provo. While there might be many to choose from, the Hyatt House Provo/Pleasant Grove is a good choice. It offers guests spacious and ultra-contemporary rooms, free internet access, and outdoor spaces that include fire pits. Perfect to set the mood for or from your visit to the museum, the Hyatt feels like a getaway resort rather than just a standard run-of-the-mill hotel.
Sundance Mountain Resort is a vacation-worthy destination in its own right. This high-end luxury resort was founded by Robert Redford, and it gives its name to the famous film festival. Set in the mountains of Provo, it offers guests an incredible experience with year-round activities like fly fishing, art classes, and spa treatments. But one word of warning: Expect to pay a high-end price.
Transportation
Provo Airport is the closest regional airport to the museum. At Provo airport, and at the time of writing, you will have access to a couple of rental car companies, Budget and Hertz. If you are coming from SLC (Salt Lake City International Airport), then you will have access to an abundance of rental car companies to choose from there. If you decide to skip on the rental and don’t mind taking mass transit, then you can take the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) from Provo Airport. You can also ride UTA from SLC, but it will take a good amount of time to get to the museum.
Where to Eat
If you happen to get hungry and need to grab a bite to eat while visiting the art museum, head over to MOA Café, the museum’s café. Visitors can enjoy a variety of quick bites that include sandwiches, salads, pasta, soups, and more.
Outside the museum and within a 5-minute driving radius, there is a Wendy’s, Papa John’s Pizza, Panda Express, McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Arby’s, Domino’s Pizza, Del Taco, Mooyah Burgers, Noodles and Company, and a Don Joaquin’s Street Tacos restaurant all in close proximity to one another.
