Leave it to none other than synthstep folk hero, SBTRKT, to kick off 2014 with some delicious new sounds. The London-based producer/DJ released a rough cut of “Runaway”, an orchestral R&B jam he created two years ago alongside frequent co-conspirator Sampha, labelmate Tic, and EDM heartthrob Jessie Ware. With a runtime of a whopping 1:15, the only beef we have with the track is that it’s painfully short. This leads us to believe “Runaway” could potentially be a sneak preview of an upcoming SBTRKT album, which would be fantastic considering he put on a bitchin’ set at HARD Summer 2013 and impressed us with his self-titled debut back in 2011.

Don’t sleep on the masked magician and his posse of UK soul rebels as they continue to carve a name for themselves deep into the dance music scene in what already appears to be a promising year.

]]> Just Noise to MeYes, the rumors are true! We have added yet another team member here at Just Noise To Me! Quinn ‘TurtleGravy’ Tucker will be our eyes and ears out in Venice, CA, where he studies film production at Santa Monica College in hopes of transferring to the celebrated School of Theater, Film, and Television.

TurtleGravy loves eating cookie butter from Trader Joe’s, watching French New Wave Films, and having dreadlocks. He also enjoys “slangin’ DSLRs at Best Buy.”  We were able to ask Quinn some more questions about his taste in music, favorite artists, and much more.

JNTM: Who are some of your favorite producers right now?
Quinn: Lunice and HudMo [Hudson Mohawke] are both killing it right now. I also dig pretty much everything Skrillex has ever done. Jackal is up there along with Gaslamp Killer, Disclosure, Oliver, SBTRKT, and Gesaffelstein.
JNTM: If you could see any DJ/artist perform live, who would it be?
Quinn: I can die happy once I see Rage Against the Machine.
JNTM: What’s the last show/festival you went to? Who was your favorite artist there?
Quinn: I’m still suffering from the post-HARD blues. GTA threw one of the illest sets at Day of the Dead, hands down. Future headliners.
JNTM: What are some genres you really like and some you really hate? Any that you hate you like?
Quinn: Hip-hop will forever be my first love. Anything from golden era conscious rap to Dirty South trill shit. Naturally, I’m a trap-a-holic by way of dubstep.
Lately I’ve been really into disco, booty house, and UK garage. Oh, and Led Zeppelin is still the greatest band of all time.
JNTM: If you could produce a track or DJ with any producer who would it be and why?
Quinn: Kanye. ‘Nuff said.
