It’s finals week here at the University of Arizona, and Tommy Trash’s podcast is exactly what my ears have been waiting for to get my through the tedious studying and memorizing.

Tommy Trash opens up his 17^th episode of Trashed with a brand new remix by Kryder and Tom Staar called “Apocalypse,” which leads swiftly into the Nightwatch remix of I Am Legion’s “Choosing For You,” which I think is a phenomenal track. The first time I heard this song was at Create in LA; Audien dropped this and I went crazy. If you’re looking for an upbeat track with an intense and funky drop, this is it.

Up next, “Agadir” by the Belgium trio GSUS! which I’ve never heard before, but I love it. And so does Tommy Trash, calling it “a little bit weird, a little bit heavy, love it.” Next is a new track by Sick Individuals, “Rock & Rave.” Not going to lie, the beat in this song reminds me of a combination of Swedish House Mafia’s Greyhound and We Come We Love We Rave.

“Bazooka” by Firebeatz, Fedde Le Grand’s “Don’t Give Up,” a Funkin Matt remix of Peking Duk’s “High,” “Amen” by Merk & Kremont and “Freaks” by Nilson follows next.

But what’s a Tommy Trash podcast without one of his productions? Out on Spinning Records now is Tommy Trash & KillaGraham’s “The Little Death.”

Tommy Trash then leads into a DJ Snake Parisian Vision remix of Lil Jon’s “Turn Down For What.” I think this version is actually better than the original. Maybe it’s because the original version of “Turn Down For What” is well overplayed and it’s refreshing to hear a different beat for the chorus, but whatever DJ Snake did works extremely well in this remix.

Trashed is closed with Tom Jame Jaggs’ “Blazin” which has a terrific beat, a Cobra Bootleg of Swedish House Mafia’s “Leave The World Behind” (which I am extremely fond of, because if you’re going to do a remix of one of SHM’s biggest hits it better be nothing less than amazing) and lastly an Alex Metric Remix to London Grammar’s “Hey Now” which brings Tommy Trash’s Trashed Episode 17 to a close.

As always, Tommy Trash surprises me with another amazing set of songs. I can’t wait to see what his next has in store!

If you were wondering why Tiesto is one of my favorite producers, then you must have not been following his weekly podcasts like I have been for the past two years. This week’s Tiesto Club Life includes remixes and songs from Bastille, John Martin, twoloud and more.

Tiesto introduces his 364^th episode of Club Life with a Fred Falke Remix of his very own hit “Red Lights” which he then transitions into Arty, Matisse & Sadko’s “Riot.”

One of my favorite songs which was recently released is TST and twoloud’s “Drop It Like This,” which Tiesto transitions into next. This song is literally make you want to drop it like – whatever “this” is! I can totally picture myself getting down to this song during Tiesto’s set at Ultra Music Festival.

Axwell’s discovery, also known for his collaborations with Swedish House Mafia, John Martin asked Tiesto to release his brand new single, “Anywhere For You,” which Tiësto remixed with Dzeko & Torres in this weeks Club Life. Ever since Swedish House Mafia’s “Don’t You Worry Child” came out, I have always been a huge fan of John Martin’s vocals. His voice lures me in and takes me back into a lush past energized filled memory of euphoria, back to when I first heard SHM drop DYWC live at Madison Square Garden, so when I came across his remix by Tiesto, Dzeko & Torres, I knew it was going to be another heart-warming feeling song. There is no other producer besides that I would have picked to remix this!

Tiesto then introduces Calippo’s “Back There,” which he then morphs into Plastic Honey’s “Can U Feel The Gecko,” followed by a Pier Poropat & Monte Karlo Remix of Tiesto’s very own “Take Me” featuring Kyler England.

The next song is 3LAU’s “Big Bang,” a spin on the classic “you and me baby ain’t nothing but mammals so lets do it like they do on the discovery channel,” which you cant help but laugh at the lyrics. 3LAU’s drop is so heavy you forget how absurd the lyrics are.

I saw Audien back in January at Create in Hollywood, and his remix to Bastille’s “Pompeii” is another one of my favorite songs – I love that Tiesto dropped this in this weeks Club Life. Audien is an amazing producer, and his remix of Bastille’s latest hit – not to mention they are performing at Governor’s Ball this year – he turned it on its head.

The rest of his set includes exclusive new tracks such as: Kaaze & Michael Feiner’s “We Will Recover,” his own remix to Jack Eye Jones’ “Playground,” and Martin Garrix’s “Proxy.”

This week’s Club Life is definitely one of my favorites, unless the talented Tiesto’s sets just keep getting better and better – I don’t know how that is even possible! I hope you enjoy this set as much as I do!

As if Tegan & Sara’s “Closer” was not good enough already, the Chi-Town duo X5IGHT‘s progressive-house remix of it blows the original away.

With influences of Armin Van Buuren, Hardwell, Swedish House Mafia, Porter Robinson, Zedd and Afrojack, X5IGHT’s “Closer” remix is for sure not one to be missed.

The song starts off slow, progresses into an upbeat tune in combination of the Canadian duo’s voices lingering over the euphoric rhythm as the drops rises. If you didn’t already sing along to this song, X5IGHT completes that mission. I know I will be singing it to and from class.

DJ collaborations on a single track is one thing, but when they begin to create albums and EP’s and start to tour under the same name, they give the idea of a supergroup an awesome, electronic revival. We’ve compiled a list of what we think are the five top DJ supergroups, in no particular order…

Top 5 DJ Supergroups:

1. Duck Sauce

Comprised of two of the biggest disco house artists in the world, Arman Van Helden and A-Trak, Duck Sauce is one of Fool’s Gold Records biggest artists. In 2009 the two released their Greatest Hits EP with tracks “aNYway” and “You’re Nasty.” The EP did alright, and it wasn’t until their 2010 release of “Barbra Streisand” that Duck Sauce was a household name. The track also got the group a nomination for Best Break-Through Artist and an award for Best Underground Dance Track at the International Dance Music Awards. The two have been touring around the world and can be seen headlining the first night of HARD Summer this year.

2. Major Lazer

In the summer of 2009, DJs Diplo and Switch released their first collaborative album, Guns Don’t Kill People… Lazers Do with the smash single “Pon De Floor.” Major Lazer then began touring the country and became known for their incredible live performances which included hype man Skerrit Bwoy and a crew of intense break dancers and aerial acrobats who jump from ladders and hump each other upon landing. Major Lazer has worked with artists like No Doubt, La Roux, Beyonce and Snoop Dogg. In 2011, Switch left the group because of “creative differences” according to Diplo who continues Major Lazer as a side project that collaborates with other trending artists. So, yes, technically this is no longer a “supergroup” but instead just a SUPER group.

3. Dog Blood

What happens when you combine two of the biggest names in EDM? You get a big ol’ mess of Dog Blood. Skrillex, who took the Dubstep scene by complete storm (some have said he’s even killed the genre entirely), and Boys Noize, who has been the poster boy for German techno for the past decade, released their first two tracks “New Order” and “Middle Finger” in August of 2012 and had their first live performance at HARD’s New Year’s Eve that same year. Since then, the two have been dominating the live circuit at festivals like Ultra, Coachella, and (you guessed it) HARD Summer. The most interesting thing is how close the two artists have gotten and how well they work together. Given the genre’s they each come from, no one would have thought that Skrillex and Boys Noize would create such a monster of EDM.

4. Swedish House Mafia

By far the most popular and successful supergroup on this list, Swedish House Mafia has been one of the biggest reasons that electronic dance music has broken through into the main scene over the past 5 years. Made up of producers Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso, the group formed in 2008 and have continued to take the entire world by storm. With countless top 10 tracks in the UK and US, Swedish House Mafia has been breaking records everywhere they go, including being the first EDM artist to perform in and sell out Madison Square Garden. Their so-called final tour named “One Last Tour” started in November 2012 and ended with their “last” performance together at Ultra Music Festival on March 24th 2013.

5. Destroid

The newest of the supergroups on this list, Destroid, is a last-ditch effort to save Dubstep — and they’re actually doing a pretty good job. Producers Excision, Downlink, and former Pendulum drummer KJ Sawka formed Destroid in 2009 and have been working for the past 3 years to build up tracks and hype up their first live performance which took place on May 31, 2013 in San Francisco. Their sound is something like Nu-Metal meets Dubstep and is actually not that terrible. As the hardcore EDM genres appear to be coming to a close, it will be exciting to see where the group can go — and for how long.
