New Orleans’ own BUKU Music + Art Project unveiled its schedule that fuses EDM, hip-hop, indie rock, and everything in between into two short days with 69 acts. With one of the year’s freshest and diverse lineups, its inevitable that BUKU’s schedule is full of overlapping performances forcing festival-goers to make tough decisions.

Friday the 21st’s schedule kick-starts the weekend with instrumental dubstep supergroup Conspirator followed by notorious hip-hop collective Bone Thugs-n-Harmony. The conflicts get tough, do you see Paper Diamond deliver his soulful blend of bass and trap, hip-hop legend NAS, or New Orleans-native trap star Kid Kamillion? Catch Carnage’s grimy big-room showcase or WAVVES surf-inspired vibe session? Dance music powerhouse pop producer Zedd or pop-rock duo Sleigh Bells? Ellie Goulding or Dusky? How do you choose between Kaskade and Chance the Rapper? Do you cap the night grooving to the kings of dubstep Zeds Dead or with Holy Ghost (DJ set)?! Buku brings the best of all worlds, making festival-attendees to plan their sets carefully.

Saturday, March 22nd brings even more hype and brutal decisions. The day gets started with Thundercat’s jazzy take on bass music, Mad Decent hotshot DJ Snake, and Schoolboy Q. But then, do you see the legendary Dan Deacon or electro-house maestro Clockwork? It’s painful knowing you can’t be getting funky with both Chromeo and GriZ.

Choosing between forward-thinkers Gaslamp Killer and Friends and Cashmere Cat will also prove to be a gut-wrenching call. Overlap between veteran psychedelic rock band The Flaming Lips and trap music’s most promising young guns Baauer and RL Grime‘s back-to-back effort also highlights just how packed this lineup is. French electro-pop juggernaut David Guetta or Explosions in the Sky? Tyler the Creator or Beats Antique? The Glitch Mob or Danny Brown?

Thankfully though, Buku has also announced a stacked series of after parties to keep the good times rolling after the festivities and into the early morning. Curated after hours parties hosted by the likes of Bassik, Lucky Me, Mad Decent, and Zeds Dead are bound to bring around the clock madness after each night of Buku. Follow up sets by Cashmere Cat, Doctor P, Just Blaze, Valentino Khan, Trippy Turtle and a bunch of guests to be announced add even more hype to one of this year’s most promising festival experiences.

Buku’s schedule announcement comes just a little more than a week prior to the event, giving attendees barely enough time to tweak their set schedules and prepare for an out-of-bounds weekend of good times, packed full of great music.

So if you still haven’t purchased your tickets for BUKU 2014 — Buy ’em now!

Just when I said that Wave Racer was the best thing to come out of Australia the boys of What So Not release this tasty hour long mix for BBC1 Xtra as a part of OWSLA‘s After Dark series. The group comprised of Flume and Emoh Instead have been busy in the studio producing highly anticipated tracks with Skrillex, A$AP Rocky, and RL Grime.

This mix just solidifies the group’s spot as one of the hottest duos to look out for in 2014.

This mix features a more atonal style than Wave Racer’s melodic flourishes and frenetic rhythms. If Wave Racer is akin to dropping acid with a pre-meltdown Brian Wilson, What So Not is like taking shots with a post-meltdown Robert Downey Jr. (or something).

With tracks ranging from hip hop and trap to 80’s classics (seriously they drop Toto’s Africa) this mix is all across the board and we’re diggin it.

A stand out track that was featured on both mixes is this distorted trap (?) clip from Portland’s Eprom. I am obsessed.

I may have spoken too soon in my article yesterday. It’s clear that Wave Racer and What So Not are on the same level when it comes to innovative new takes on the genre. So who do you think is better?

People like Sleep Tom, Oliver, and Danny Brown have all been turned into household names thanks to FG. What’s different about their newest star on the rise, Sammy Bananas, is that the Brooklyn-based producer has actually been around for the better part of five years.

Working with artists like Thee Mike B and putting out countless club-classic bootlegs, Sammy Bananas has no reason to be one of the lesser-known artists to come out of the prestigious label. But now, with the release of the Flexin’ EP, it might finally be time for Sammy Bananas to make his mark on the dance community.

Here’s what Fool’s Gold had to say upon the release:

Sammy Bananas has been keeping Fool’s Gold funky since the label first began. Yet all his smash bootlegs, remixes and original jams (both as a solo artist and as one half of FG duos Fifteenth and Telephoned) were merely setting the stage for the brand new Flexin’ EP, a back-to-the-future blast of house, disco and R&B vibes blended together as only one Banana man can.

It’s a master class in party music from a scholar of New Jack Swing. And as if these hybrid jams weren’t fun enough on their own, the Flexin’ EP will also be available on limited-edition colored vinyl, complete with mustachioed “Mr. Flex” cutout figure for maximum DIY dance party action. Sammy Bananas is in the house, literally in your house. Time to flex.

The Flexin’ EP is packed with a collection of tracks rebranding the classic, Detroit-style, disco house genre, giving it a nostalgic feel with a touch of modern deep house vibe. I personally think we’ll be hearing a lot of these songs in upcoming mixes and live performances, and I’ll even go out on a limb and say I expect to see a Sammy Bananas performance at some upcoming festivals this summer.
