Flying Lotus has been intensifying anticipation of the drop of his forthcoming album, You’re Dead! out October 7th via Warp by releasing single tracks and giving fans tastes of what we have been craving. Following his release of “Moment of Hesitation” and “Never Catch Me” featuring Kendrick Lamar, FlyLo shares his silky, down-tempo, bass heavy jazz track “Coronus, The Terminator”.

We are one month away from the release of the highly anticipated Flying Lotus album, “You’re Dead!“, and I for one could not be more excited. Flying Lotus (aka Captain Murphy, aka Lunchpail), a Los Angeles local, is one of the most unique artists out there right now.

It is difficult to pinpoint his genre as he experiments with all sorts of sounds, ranging from hip hop beats to some of the most bizarre electronic sounds you’ll ever hear. A recent leak from Power106 confirms that FlyLo has done a collaboration with Grammy nominated and another Los Angeles local, Kendrick Lamar.

Flying Lotus x Kendrick Lamar – Never Catch Me

The song is titled “Never Catch Me” and features verses from both Flying Lotus and Kendrick, who both show their creative talent by spitting these verses faster than the speed of light. The beat they rap over is nothing that would ever be heard on “Good Kid, M.A.A.D City” but rather that off beat electronic jazz funk that you would hear on “Cosmogramma,” FlyLo’s 2010 album, and my personal favorite.

Staying true to his sound while incorporating one of the best rappers out there right now. It should be interesting to see what the rest of the album will hold. The only downside to this leak is that it was obviously bootlegged, and “Power106” is said about every 15 seconds.

However, given the countless resources there are for finding music in this era, you can likely find a version without this annoying interruption within the next week. There have also been mutterings that Snoop Dogg and Herbie Hancock will be included somewhere on “You’re Dead!”. Time will tell if these tales are true, but for now, let’s all enjoy this.

With Flying Lotus‘ highly anticipated 5th studio album You’re Dead! slated for release in October the hype train of promotion has begun.

Yesterday saw the release of a truly trippy album trailer followed by Adult Swim’s release of Captain Murphy’s origin story.

For those unfamiliar, Captain Murphy is the moniker sported by FlyLo when he jumps behind the mic and starts to rap. Despite only releasing music as Murphy for three years, the Captain has a unique flow that smashes other crossover artists.

If you didn’t catch Childish Gambino’s  cringe-worthy short film Clapping for the Wrong Reasons, one of the only redeemable moments is a Captain Murphy freestyle that evokes the styles of MadLib and Earl Sweatshirt.

Adult Swim is actually where Flying Lotus got his start so it’s fitting that the animation team over there has put together something of a backstory for the rapper/producer. Episode one aired yesterday and I am assuming there will be more as the episode ends with an engimatic “To be continued.”

To put even more fuel in the hype train, Captain Murphy released the new track “Cosplay” via Adult Swim’s soundcloud. You can take a listen below.

Today, the master of beats reveals his artistry in his brain-twisting video preview featuring images by Shintaro Kago and track samples from the upcoming album, You’re Dead! set to be released on October 7 via Warp.

The abstruse video exposes frightening, psychedelic images warped with accents of jazz and the familiar sounds of Snoop Dogg and Dirty Projector’s Deradoorian both stimulating and perplexing you.
