Anyone who said moombahton has had its day is dead wrong. The latin-inspired sub-genre seemed to be garnering some steam in years past, but has since slowed down and become more a niche sound for fine-tuned tastes, positioned somewhere between dance hall and house music. Now however, moombahton may be making a comeback, with the likes of Dillon Francis announcing a full moombahton EP this year, and and DJ Snake and Skrillex weighing in on the genre’s return.
Previewed in a short Youtube video, perhaps from Holy Ship!’s second sailing this past week, Skrillex drops the syrupy 110bpm tune alongside his Parisian collaborator. The tune is far from what you’d expect from Skrill, packing in high-frequency lead synths, complete with latin-inspired, shoulder-shaking tribal drum work. DJ Snake even took to twitter to confirm the tune, alluding to a first-listen that may be sooner than we all think.

Snake, known to be charmingly concise, assures fans in all of one whole word that one of the biggest collaborations of the year will be available to eager fans before we know it. Without a release date or even a name to go by, it looks like its a waiting game from here, although it may be a lot shorter than people think. Stay tuned.
