A whimsical mash-up of arcane 8-bit sound bites and brooding down-tempo bass lines fill this fourth LP from Los Angeles-based beat wizard, Flying Lotus. Until the Quiet Comes is otherworldly; tightening his signature sound, Lotus manages to tie in ethereal samples, guest vocals (notably: Erykah Badu and Thom Yorke), high hats, and layers upon layers of sound.
There’s enough elements in this record to remind you that you’re still listening to a primarily hip-hop record, and not just tangled up in the signals of intergalactic space junk.
