This past week, French juggernaut DJ SNAKE dropped a vicious BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix. Guess what else, IT’S TWO FREAKING HOURS LONG! So, yeah you know the drill…

DJ SNAKE hardly needs an introduction, considering he dropped two of the most poppin’ trap anthems of 2013 with “Bird Machine” and “Turn Down For What” feat. Lil’ Jon. But can we please talk about him starting them mix off with a house remix of Coolio’s “Gangsta’s Paradise”? I mean, who does that?! That’s right, a genius does that.

Honestly, there are almost too many gems in this mix. SNAKE’s remix-laden set includes everything from Drake to Janet Jackson, The Fugees to Milo & Otis, with plenty of genre-mashing ranging from funk house and festival trap to booty tech and and Jersey club.

I’d say save this mix for your trendiest hipster friends who ONLY appreciate a wide variety of music and nothing else. However, the transitions are squeaky-clean and the drops are so tasty that pretty much any sort of EDM fan can find something they dig. Even if that means they only like “Dark Horse”…

The second mix I stumbled across is a guest mix LA-based duo Vindata did for the homies over at GottaDanceDirty. It’s super forward-thinking and (hopefully) provides an accurate glimpse at what EDM will look like in 2014 and beyond. Check it!

A self-proclaimed “genre-bending collectivce created in 2010”, Vindata combines Jersey club, love trap, and future garage, seasoned with a little bit of that zany LA beat music flavor to create a progressive concoction of edgy underground sounds.

As of now, these guys are well under the radar. Hopefully this mix receives the exposure it deserves and gains them a little street cred. They’ve got a dreamy four-track EP release under their belts and have produced plenty of remixes for some of my favorite artists including Flume, Little Dragon, and Toro y Moi. Personally, I’m rooting for these dudes to emerge from the underground and make it to some prestigious festies this season.

This here is the mix you save for your hippest of friends. You know, the ones who can’t stand the word “EDM” and love to post statuses about how “the scene isn’t the same” and “where were you in 2005, bro?” We were in sixth grade, alright? Everyone had a MySpace phase…

(TurtleTip: This is the stuff everyone will be jamming to by the end of 2014. Be the cool friend who exposes the gang to some catchy new vibes, man. They’ll thank you later.)

According to a recent article from our friends at Stony Roads, the producers of Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse,” including famed producer Dr Luke, have very sneakily ripped off the track “Gold” by DJ Butcher.

It’s pretty apparent that the main hook of “Dark Horse,” heard at the :28 mark, is extremely similar to the hook of “Gold,” heard at 1:32. The individual notes are definitely exactly the same — the cadence/progression of the notes are really the only things that are different between the two.

The most unfortunate thing is that there is probably no hope for DJ Butcher and any sort of legal team he might be able to put together. It’s still unknown as to whether or not the Australian producer will be filing any sort of lawsuit against Perry and her team.

I honestly don’t think the world is ready for the power duo that is X5IGHT…

Known best for their impressive remixes of tracks like Zedd’s “Clarity” and Katy Perry‘s “Peacock,” X5IGHT is one of those groups that continuously makes my jaw drop. Release after release these guys truly blow me away with their creativity and unconventionality. Their newest remix of Travis Porter’s “Make It Rain” is no exception.

Los Angeles based producer and artist on the rise Matthew Leface has released his remix of Katy Perry‘s “Unconditionally.” The track is a big-room/festival house masterpiece with a couple of monster drops and seriously huge synths. With the track being picked up by Katy, Matthew is sure to start getting even more recognition than he already has over the past two years.

Katy Perry has released her video for her newest single “Roar” which will appear on her upcoming album PRISM due October 22nd. The video depicts a group text message between Katy and some of her friends, with animated emojis spelling out parts of the text messages. A totally original idea! Right?

EDM fans and Dillon Francis fanatics alike are probably watching Katy’s newest video and shaking their heads. Why? Because Dillon Francis released his music video for “Messages” featuring Simon Lord four months prior, also featuring text messages and animated emojis. Francis has also been using the animated emoji theme throughout his 2013 performances.

Francis was quick to lash out at Katy, tweeting:

Damn first @official_flo steals @diplo‘s “butters theme” music idea now @katyperry steals my “messages” music video idea..What the fuck?
