In the last few years, we’ve seen dance music finally emerge into the world of commercialization as some of dance music’s most in-demand names begin to pull in Grammy nominations. Skrillex, Afrojack, and Zedd are all past Grammy winners, and now Aphex Twin can join those ranks, with this year’s awarded Best Dance/ Electronic Album. The reclusive English producer, who many consider one of the most influential figures in dance music’s modern era went up against deadmau5‘s critically acclaimed double album, While (1<2) to take this year’s top prize.

Aphex Twin’s cryptic release of Syro in 2014 brought the renown producer back to the limelight, setting the bar extremely high for full-length electronic LPs to follow. While Mat Zo, Royksopp & Robyn, and Little Dragon were also nominated for the award this year, it ultimately came down to two clear front-runners in that category, although Aphex Twin is also joined by the legendary Tiesto and Clean Bandit, who also won Grammys at this year’s event too.

The fact that the first line of this song is “I like us better when we’re wasted” automatically categorizes this as my senior year of college theme song.

Yeah I’ve been called a “catch,” and yeah, I am also 22. The lyrics of this song are beyond appropriate for this point in time in my life. As my senior year is coming to a close, I know either way you miss out. Especially if you don’t check this song out!

This song is unlike Tiesto’s usual house and club-like songs, and I don’t know if that is what makes it so amazing. There is not one thing about this song I would change; Matthew Koma was an exceptional choice for Tiesto to do this song with.

Not only are the lyrics amazing, but the beat is as well. When I first heard this song it was at 4 a.m. one of my many sleepless nights. I couldn’t get enough of it. From the second the beat dropped to the first vocal, my mood was insanely uplifted for the whole three minutes and eights seconds that this song is.

I listened to it. And again. And again. And again. The fact that my roommate played this song a whopping 42 times the first day I showed her it justifies that it is unbelievably amazing, since she listens to rap for the most part.

This song literally brings me to a paradise state of mind, which is ironic since the name of Tiesto’s upcoming album is “A Town Called Paradise.” It is to be released on June 16^th on Casablanca Records. If every song on his album is this good, there is no doubt that it will be his best selling album, ever.

This is going to be a huge song for the near-approaching summer and festival season. If you haven’t listened to it yet, or don’t usually like Tiesto, keep your bias opinions away. I promise when you listen to this song, you WILL NOT be let down; the beat will only bring you up!

For the past few weeks I have been covering Tiesto’s Club Life Podcast’s and I assure you that they just keep getting better and better. This weeks Club Life features new music ranging from Alvaro, Eric Prydz, Jus Jack and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, so this is yet another Club Life that you do not want to miss out on.

Tiesto starts off Club Life 365 with Alvaro’s new song “Shades.” Alvaro has toured with Tiesto over the last year and I even had the amazing opportunity to watch him opened for Tiesto at Electro Beach back in March 2013 in Mexico. Next, Tiesto transitions into one of my recently favorite songs, “Drop It Like This” by TST vs. twoloud. Something about the beat in this song pulls me in.

Next up is the Baggi Begovic & Team Bastian’s “I Know U,” which was just released on April 4 on Tiësto’s Musical Freedom. Known for his hit song “Sleep Till I Come Home,” Baggi Begovic collaborated with Team Bastian in order to produce this big room style uplifting banger, the heavy bass and swift vocals forming in perfect unison. Tiesto drops a Roul and Doors Remix of Christina Perri’s “Human” next, followed by Paniek’s “Spark It Up.”

Hands down, one of my favorite EDM songs of all time is Adrian Lux’s “Teenage Crime.” I will never forget the first time I heard it live during Avicii at Governors Island when he was first touring. Since I was a teenager at the time, the song instantly sent me into a world where nothing could stop the moment. This smashup of “Teenage Crime” featuring Vicetone turns the original version on its head, giving it a complete new feeling.

Up next are Stadiumx & Taylr Renee’s “Howl At The Moon,” Eric Prydz’s “Liberate” and Tim Mason’s newly released “Starlight.”

Jus Jack’s vocal mix of “Stars” is up next, another great song. This was actually my first time hearing the vocal version, and I was super excited for it considering I had been listening to the version without the vocals for a while now. I was waiting for this moment and it is no disappointment! The beat to this song is tremendously moving, and the lyrics contribute to its wonderfulness. I could not wait until listening to the end of it to download this version.

Tiesto closes this week’s Club Life with D-Rashid’s “Famous” which has a hell of a drop, his own remix of Jack Eye Jones’ “Playground,” and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike vs Martin Garrix “Tremor.”

This Club Life is no upset, featuring new releases and fun, upbeat songs. You still have yet to let me down Tiesto, and I don’t see that happening anytime in the near future!

If you were wondering why Tiesto is one of my favorite producers, then you must have not been following his weekly podcasts like I have been for the past two years. This week’s Tiesto Club Life includes remixes and songs from Bastille, John Martin, twoloud and more.

Tiesto introduces his 364^th episode of Club Life with a Fred Falke Remix of his very own hit “Red Lights” which he then transitions into Arty, Matisse & Sadko’s “Riot.”

One of my favorite songs which was recently released is TST and twoloud’s “Drop It Like This,” which Tiesto transitions into next. This song is literally make you want to drop it like – whatever “this” is! I can totally picture myself getting down to this song during Tiesto’s set at Ultra Music Festival.

Axwell’s discovery, also known for his collaborations with Swedish House Mafia, John Martin asked Tiesto to release his brand new single, “Anywhere For You,” which Tiësto remixed with Dzeko & Torres in this weeks Club Life. Ever since Swedish House Mafia’s “Don’t You Worry Child” came out, I have always been a huge fan of John Martin’s vocals. His voice lures me in and takes me back into a lush past energized filled memory of euphoria, back to when I first heard SHM drop DYWC live at Madison Square Garden, so when I came across his remix by Tiesto, Dzeko & Torres, I knew it was going to be another heart-warming feeling song. There is no other producer besides that I would have picked to remix this!

Tiesto then introduces Calippo’s “Back There,” which he then morphs into Plastic Honey’s “Can U Feel The Gecko,” followed by a Pier Poropat & Monte Karlo Remix of Tiesto’s very own “Take Me” featuring Kyler England.

The next song is 3LAU’s “Big Bang,” a spin on the classic “you and me baby ain’t nothing but mammals so lets do it like they do on the discovery channel,” which you cant help but laugh at the lyrics. 3LAU’s drop is so heavy you forget how absurd the lyrics are.

I saw Audien back in January at Create in Hollywood, and his remix to Bastille’s “Pompeii” is another one of my favorite songs – I love that Tiesto dropped this in this weeks Club Life. Audien is an amazing producer, and his remix of Bastille’s latest hit – not to mention they are performing at Governor’s Ball this year – he turned it on its head.

The rest of his set includes exclusive new tracks such as: Kaaze & Michael Feiner’s “We Will Recover,” his own remix to Jack Eye Jones’ “Playground,” and Martin Garrix’s “Proxy.”

This week’s Club Life is definitely one of my favorites, unless the talented Tiesto’s sets just keep getting better and better – I don’t know how that is even possible! I hope you enjoy this set as much as I do!

In this week’s Clublife, Tiesto dives right into it with a remix of Swedish House Mafia’s “Leave The World Behind” by Lune. Although nothing gets much better than the original version, this one is pretty dope. The soft vocals twinkle over the slow rising beat into a raging drop.

Following this song Tiesto drops his remix with twoloud of Hardwell’s “Dare You,” followed by a remix called “Closer Eyes,” featuring Tegan & Sara, Sultan & Ned Shepard and Kaskade, which is a remix of Tegan & Sara’s “Closer” and Kaskade’s “Eyes.” I had never heard this song before so I knew it was going to be a good one since those are two of my favorite songs.

Tiesto also drops the mesmerizing song “Ahead Of Us” by Tom Swoon and Lush & Simon, followed by “Back to Earth” by Futuristic Polar Bears, Tiesto’s twoloud remix of “Red Lights,” HIX vs. Pearl Jam “Alarma Man (Sgt Slick & Vice Edit),” Sick Individuals & Axwell feat. Taylr Renee “I Am (Deorro Remix),” DVBBS & VINAI “Raveology,” The Chainsmokers infamous “#selfie,” and closed with “Helicopter” by Martin Garrix & Firebeatz.

I’ve never been to a festival with a more beautiful setting than SnowGlobe Music Festival in South Lake Tahoe. Waking up and looking out onto the lake and being embedded in the lush green forest with snow on the ground was something completely out of my element. The festival itself was also something unlike anything I’ve ever experienced…

Day 1

I must admit, I’m pissed off my travel plans set me back so far. I honestly ended up missing the better half of the first day of the festival, and only arrived in time to see the last three or four acts, missing some heavy hitters like Holy Ghost!, Kastle, Gramatik, and more. The first act I got to see the first night was UK artist Star Slinger whose bass-filled house set at the Sierra Tent was definitely a good one to get in the mood.

The only thing I have to say about Tiesto is that he was Tiesto — and I mean that in the best way possible. Although I’m not a huge fan, Tiesto really does know how to get a crowd going. For anyone who’s into some serious party/festival rave music, he’s your man. For those looking to get down to some real deep, booty-shakin’ house music, Justin Martin was at the Igloo Tent only a half hour later.

Justin’s set was definitely one for the books, and as a huge Dirtybird fan, you better believe I had a fan girl moment getting to watch his set. Closing out the first night of the festival, Justin Martin played an hour and forty-five minute set to a tent packed full of fans. After his last track the audience was screaming for just one more. Justin looked over to the security guard who luckily granted him another five minutes. Fans rushed the stage when the set was over and the first night was under wraps.

Day 2

I started off my second day at SnowGlobe getting to enjoy the first half of Kill Paris‘s set and then heading straight to the Main Stage for Zeds Dead. Now, in the past I’ve admitted to being on the fence with Zeds Dead, mainly because I caught them right as they got their start, when “Coffee Break” was their claim to fame. In those days, Zeds Dead wasn’t anything to write home about.

Almost three years alter these guys have completely changed my mind. From dubstep to festival trap, the Toronto-based duo had one of the most impressive sets of the weekend, completely packing the grounds at the Main Stage.

I need not yet again mention my love for Dirtybird, so it goes without saying that my excitement level was at an all-time high at the Claude VonStroke show. Getting to see his show at both HARD Summer and his latest US tour, I was expecting to see somewhat of the same set at SnowGlobe. Fortunately, I was incorrect in my assumption and was blown away at some of the material Claude VonStroke was spinning that night. With classic jams like “Turbosteppa” along with some smash hits from his newest album, Urban Animal, mixed in, the Claude VonStroke show was definitely something to remember.

Justin Jay kept the Dirtybird vibes alive in the Igloo Tent, and after closing the night with the theme song from Space Jam, it was safe to say I got enough deep house for the entire weekend.

Day 3

Finally, the heaviest weighing lineup of the entire festival was upon us. Luminox had a great energy on stage to get the party started right: the young Phoenix native was on point with his set, bringing a TON of people to the Sierra tent — something I wasn’t expecting.

Dillon Francis was up next on the Main Stage with a set that wasn’t as great as I had wanted. I’m not sure if it’s because I had seen him a couple times throughout the year, or if his set at HARD Summer was one of my favorite of 2013, but there was something about Dillon’s set that seemed a bit forced. Maybe it was because he was about to hop on a plane to finish off the year in San Francisco with A-Trak. Either way, it was fun as hell and the crowd didn’t seem to mind.

The next heavy hitter of the night was the one and only Snoop Dogg who surprised me by playing all of his classics instead of some of his newer, Snoop Lion material.

Cashmere Cat was next on my list, and damn did he throw down. The crowd at the front was dancing so hard they literally broke through the gate and had to have security come and put it back together. Definitely one of the most memorable sets of the weekend.

I finished off the night watching Cut Copy and, to be completely honest, wasn’t too blown away. They didn’t even stop to bring in the new year, playing through the countdown and finishing their set with a remark like, “Oh fuck! Happy New Year!” The fireworks were fun though!

SnowGlobe Music Festival 2013 Review

Overall I think this was a fantastic festival. With great organization, awesome vendors for food and beer, and a beautiful setting, SnowGlobe 2013 was definitely the best festival I could have been at to close out an already incredible year.

Some negatives: I think the whole show should have been pushed back by a few hours. I’m sure the organizers had to deal with noise level restrictions seeing as the venue is right in the middle of a suburban area, but it was difficult to make it to the show by the 3 o’clock start time. I would have also tried to get a better closer for New Years Eve. Cut Copy was great, but not really the best compared to the rest of the acts they had closing the other nights.

Some positives: The festival was super diverse. Booty house, progressive house, big names, small names… I was glad I got to catch a whole smorgasbord of different acts. Sierra Nevada was the beer of choice, and a great one at that. The prices for food and beverages were also very reasonable.

One of the best things about this festival is the shuttle system. Although it could have been a bit more organized on the final evening, I thought that it was still an awesome, safe, and convenient way to get to and from the show.

SnowGlobe Music Festival was by far and away one of the best festivals I’ve been to, especially in terms of NYE fests. The homegrown vibe was a nice change of pace, and while it seems as though they’re still getting some things together, the folks over at SnowGlobe are on their way to becoming hosts to one of the biggest festivals in the US. If you’ve ever even considered spending your New Years at SnowGlobe, I highly, highly encourage you to do so.
