Are you a lover of all things art? You’ve probably been to New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and many of the other art hot spots in the country. But here’s one location you may not have considered: Provo, Utah.

Brigham Young University’s Museum of Art, located in Provo, Utah, is one of the hidden gems of the art world. It is home to some of the greatest and thought-provoking pieces of art the world has ever seen. Fun and educational for the whole family, BYU’s Museum of Art has something for everyone, allowing visitors to experience art with their permanently-housed collection.

Upcoming exhibitions at the art museum include Supermarket: Pop Art and 1960’s America, showcasing American life, and the style of advertising during post-World War II. Take in some of the most famous pieces of pop art by the likes of Ed Ruscha, Lichtenstein, Warhol, and many other transcendent artists. This exhibition will begin on December 6th, 2019.

Whether it is your first time visiting the museum to catch an exhibition or a regular patron who just can’t get enough of art, here is a guide to help you plan your visit to BYU’s Museum of Art.

Where to Stay

Excited to visit the museum, you are probably searching for hotels in Provo. While there might be many to choose from, the Hyatt House Provo/Pleasant Grove is a good choice. It offers guests spacious and ultra-contemporary rooms, free internet access, and outdoor spaces that include fire pits. Perfect to set the mood for or from your visit to the museum, the Hyatt feels like a getaway resort rather than just a standard run-of-the-mill hotel.

Sundance Mountain Resort is a vacation-worthy destination in its own right. This high-end luxury resort was founded by Robert Redford, and it gives its name to the famous film festival. Set in the mountains of Provo, it offers guests an incredible experience with year-round activities like fly fishing, art classes, and spa treatments. But one word of warning: Expect to pay a high-end price.

Transportation

Provo Airport is the closest regional airport to the museum. At Provo airport, and at the time of writing, you will have access to a couple of rental car companies, Budget and Hertz. If you are coming from SLC (Salt Lake City International Airport), then you will have access to an abundance of rental car companies to choose from there. If you decide to skip on the rental and don’t mind taking mass transit, then you can take the Utah Transit Authority (UTA) from Provo Airport. You can also ride UTA from SLC, but it will take a good amount of time to get to the museum.

Where to Eat

If you happen to get hungry and need to grab a bite to eat while visiting the art museum, head over to MOA Café, the museum’s café. Visitors can enjoy a variety of quick bites that include sandwiches, salads, pasta, soups, and more.

Outside the museum and within a 5-minute driving radius, there is a Wendy’s, Papa John’s Pizza, Panda Express, McDonald’s, Taco Bell, Arby’s, Domino’s Pizza, Del Taco, Mooyah Burgers, Noodles and Company, and a Don Joaquin’s Street Tacos restaurant all in close proximity to one another.

Other Attractions

Complete your visit to the art museum by exploring the rest of Provo, Utah. Are you feeling to get your fitness on while surrounded by nature? A 9-minute drive from the art museum will get you to Y Mountain. Y Mountain offers you a steep hiking trail and panoramic views of nature and Provo.

If you want to experience a picturesque waterfall, then this next attraction is for you. Open all-year-round, witness the famous and natural waterfall (607-foot-tall double cataract) of Bridal Veil Falls, located just 8.6 miles (or a 16-minute drive) from the museum.

Are you visiting during the warm season? Seven Peaks Water Park will cool you down with their slides and wave pool and is only about a 10 to 12-minute drive from the museum.

Enjoy the arts at Brigham Young University’s Museum of Art in Provo, Utah. Grab this guide and start planning your visit today. See you there!

2018 was a stellar year for music. So many different genres delivered strong and powerful performances. We had the surprise entry of The Greatest Showman album into the charts, not just as a flash-in-the-pan phase, but as a constant presence at the top for 25 consecutive weeks, making it the longest running number one soundtrack in five decades.

On top of that, we had the insane popularity of Childish Gambino’s This Is America, which became one of the biggest music events of the decade thanks to its controversial and thought-provoking video. Ariana Grande also made her mark, with a host of new material and her iconic premiere of Thank U, Next, which drew in an amazing 825,000 live viewers.

It all means that 2019 has an awful lot to live up to, but to be entirely honest, we’re not the slightest bit worried. In fact, we think it’s shaping up to be pretty great already, so here are just a few of the artists whose future works are ramping up the ante and making us super excited to see what’s in store.

Ariana Grande

Given that we’ve already mentioned some of the amazing work she produced in 2018, it should come as little surprise to see Ariana Grande featured on this list, and whilst it might seem like only yesterday that she was releasing Sweetener, work is already well underway on its follow-up. With two singles released so far – Imagine and Thank U, Next – we feel confident Grande is going to deliver, with the star taking to Twitter to promise: “No drags… no shade… just love, gratitude, acceptance, honesty, forgiveness… and growth”. Upping the ante just a little more, Savan Kotecha, the songstress’ producer and co-writer, has called it the best album Grande has made. It sounds like we can some expect some really great things from Ariana in 2019.

Azealia Banks

Her Twitter rants have made Azealia Banks a rather controversial figure in recent years, but what they cannot do is take away from her inarguable talent. Her up-and-coming album, Fantasea II, is one we’ve waited a pretty long time for, with its original release date set as February 2018, but we’re nonetheless confident it’s going to deliver. Its lead single, Anna Wintour, has already been released, becoming one of our favourite songs of last year, and if it’s anything to go by, the album should be pretty damn amazing. So good, in fact, that it might just make people forget Banks’ less savoury but nonetheless headline-grabbing antics, like feuding with Lana Del Rey, and the bizarre house hostage saga she was part of.

Cardi B

Source: Facebook via Cardi B

2018 has to have been one of the busiest years of Cardi B’s life. In amongst giving birth to daughter Kulture, making waves with her very public break-up, and releasing one of the best debut albums in a long time, the star never seemed to stop – and her work schedule shows no signs of slowing down in 2019. Cardi’s already revealed to fans that the follow-up to Invasion of Privacy should be ready for April, to neatly coincide with the one-year anniversary of her original offering. That said, considering we’re still dancing away to Money and the many awesome tracks that accompanied it, we almost feel like she’s being a bit too generous. After all, even popstars need to take the occasional break.

Childish Gambino

Next up on our list, the inimitable Childish Gambino. Donald Glover has said his next album will be his last, so he’s committed to really making it count. His viral smash, This Is America, which is currently in the running to become the Triple J Hottest 100 winner according to Oddschecker at 3.6, is slated to be featured, along with singles such as Feels Like Summer and Summertime Magic, which means it’s off to a pretty great start already. Sources say Glover is likely to play some of his new material during his Coachella headline set in April, but whether the album will be out then or whether attendees will be getting a sneak peek of what’s to come is anyone’s guess.

Carly Rae Jepsen

Carly Rae Jepsen hurtled onto the music scene with the cute and quirky Call Me Maybe, but she hasn’t done all that much since 2015’s E.MO.TION – or not in the public eye, at least. In fact, the songstress claims to have written around 120 songs in the intervening years, drawing inspiration from understated disco and artists including Ariel Pink and Big Thief. November saw the release of single Party for One, which Jepsen described as being a song about self-love, but it seems there’s plenty still to come. Hopefully we’ll hear it before 2019 gets too long in the tooth.

Kanye West

Kanye West might be most widely associated with his odd Twitter behaviour and support of Donald Trump right now, but there’s no taking away from the fact that he’s a supremely talented musician, and 2019 should give us the chance to be reminded of that. With his ninth studio album Yandhi originally slated for release on September 29th last year, but now set to come out ‘once it’s done’, we expect to see it at some point in the next 12 months. What we know about it so far is that many of the tracks that will be featured on it were recorded in West’s home city, Chicago, whilst others were finished in Uganda. Fingers crossed that the final result will have all the genius of his earlier work on My Beautiful Twisted Dark Fantasy.

Lady Gaga

Source: Facebook via Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga spent much of 2018 straying from her usual material, but she nonetheless knocked it out of the ballpark with her amazing work on A Star is Born. 2019 promises to be another exciting year for the popstar supremo, with electronic producers SOPHIE and Boys Noize both having spent time in the studio with her recently. Although we can’t say for certain what sort of material they’ve been working on, rumours abound that a return to her electro-pop roots is imminent, and we’re definitely here for that. What we can say for definite is this: everything Gaga touches turns to gold, and we have no doubt that her latest offering will be another perfect case in point.

With some of the biggest names in the business set to bring out new material in 2019, we can’t see it being anything less than a magnificent year for music lovers everywhere. Between Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Childish Gambino, and Ariana Grande, we genuinely can’t decide which up-and-coming album we’re most excited for. So tell us, if the choice were yours, which of our favourites would get your vote?

This week, Flume and Tove Lo released a new track together. “Say It” is the second single released off his upcoming album Skin, which is the second album from Flume. Skin will be available May 27th. For now, fans can preorder the new album and get the new track “Say It” along with the purchase.

Flume’s last album, Flume, was released in 2012, so it’s been a hot minute since our ears have heard a full album of new material. We’re excited about the album release, but for now, we’re stoked to have Say It on repeat. Despite the commercial success (radio play), we still can’t get enough. In the second single, following the amazing “Never Be Like You,” Tove Lo’s voice adds the perfect overlay to this track, speeding up and slowing down lyrics in all the right places. Speaking as a music noob, I can still recognize that the Swedish singer and Australian producer made a smash.

Listen to the track below, and be sure to preorder Skin.

I don’t think it has much to do with dating a certain vampire celebrity either — FKA Twigs just happens to be one of those rare specimens that has the full package of immense talent (she produces her own music), used to be a back-up dancer for Nicki Minaj and other huge acts, and is also just superbly creative.

Annoyed with the label of “alternative r&b” FKA Twigs fights back those who try to put her in a certain box that’s neatly labeled. There’s a lot of facets to her, and her music is brimming with emotion and color, to put her down as purely an alternative hip-hop artists is lazy. In her songs you can hear a myriad of influences including ballet, old black and white movies, Jamaican dance hall music and more .

I first started following Cake Eater a couple months ago when he showed up on the Do Androids Dance 50 More Under 5000 list of up-n-coming artists. A week ago he released Jello, a collaboration with Inflect, and we had to hit him up for an interview.

Hailing from Lincoln, Nebraska we asked Cake Eater about his influences, the Tropical genre, and cakes shaped like asses. Check out our interview below!

JNTM: Who was the first electronic artist that you listened to that made you want to start producing/DJing? What acts do you think are killing it right now?

Cake Eater: The first electronic music to really click with me when I was younger was stuff from The Prodigy and Nine Inch Nails, I still consider those two to be major influences.

Proxy is someone I consider to be a huge influence to the way I write stuff, I have so much respect for him as far as sound design goes and that’s always been something I try and focus a lot of my effort on. I can’t say that I make a lot of stuff that sounds like him, maybe I do, I don’t know, but what I hear in his work that I try to achieve is creating an eponymous sound, one that people connect with and when they hear it they think , “Oh, that’s a Cake Eater track.”

But, while discovering stuff like Proxy, I was in my early college years and going to a lot of shows and went to Lollapalooza one summer, that’s where I saw MSTRKRFT and The Bloody Beetroots and I think that’s where I really began to find my influences that have shaped what I’m doing today. To name a few: Crookers, Tittsworth, Boys Noize, Congorock, The Faint, Bart B More, Harvard Bass….there’s honestly probably hundreds more.

Acts Killing it at the moment, or my favorite acts:

Astronomar, Bot & all of Main Course Records

Trumpdisco

Sluggers

Kaytranada

Amtrak

Branko

Kygo

The Al Gore Rhythm Method

Tony Quattro

Pomo

Krywolf

Wuki

Go Freek

TC (Dnb)

Valentino Khan

Rockwell

Betz (Italy)

Treovr (Seattle, WA)

DFM (Omaha, NE)

Buzz Junior (Omaha, NE)

& Mr. Carmack….just to name a few, there is an endless amount of crazy talent out their right now.

JNTM: Give us some background on yourself and your history working in music.

CE: I got my first start messing around on some low level software when I was about 18 or 19, I was devastated by a break up (haha) and was looking for a creative outlet. I really wanted to produce indie hip-hop stuff at first, I was really into Definitive Jux and guys like EL-P and Aesop rock so I started messing around with making hip-hop loops.

In that same time discovered dance music through stuff like Soulwax and Justice, so at some point I started to cross over while I was getting familiar with other music software. I was djing small club gigs around my hometown at the time and at some point made the transition to focusing on dance music.

JNTM: I see you’ve got tracks on Soundcloud as far back as 2011, how was your sound evolved over the past three years?

CE: My early stuff had good ideas, but when I go back now I can really hear the inexperience in my productions, I think I was just trying to do as much as I could with what I knew at the time.

Early on I was making a lot of aggressive heavy stuff, “Bangers” I guess. I was surrounded by local Dubstep shows every weekend so I just wanted to make something heavy but that was an answer to that scene at the time.

Over time I started to understand what I liked and didn’t like about dance music and started to close the gap of making those things possible in my creative process. Over time I was just building an arsenal of material to throw into live sets I would play.

It wasn’t until Bad Shoes Records discovered me online and I signed on with that label that I began to really explore elements of every genre and start to incorporate them into my project. I cut my teeth on that label by doing some remixes early on but I was always sending demos to the boss, Esteban Tascon (Baan), as well as Hank Kalleen (Earjerker) and I was really ambitious and it got to the point where I had all this material that the guys really strongly believed in and thought were great products.

It was after that, that I went to work on my first album “Jangala”. I spent the better part of a year creating tracks for that album and through that process is where I feel I grew the most as an artist. Unlike making a single, I spent a lot of time creating stuff that fit the environment that I had created for the music that became “Jangala”, it was like writing a soundtrack to a movie, more or less.

Now days I’m creating a lot of stuff to fit my live sets and focusing most on trying to stand out in the saturated dance music market that all of us artists are in right now, so I can hopefully gain some interest on a global level. I think back in 2011 that seemed light years away, and now, sometimes… those goals don’t seem so out of reach.

JNTM: Describe the Tropical genre. How did you get into producing this genre of music and where do you think it’s going?

CE: That influence came from being apart of the Bad Shoes Records roster, it spans the globe and is full of artist from all different walks on very unique creative paths. I learned a lot working with my label mates, Fuzzy Fotch in particular. Producing tropical influenced stuff came as a result of what Baan wanted on his label and over time It just became something I was passionate about creating.

Tropical Bass is just another label to categorize music, it means everything and nothing, and just like every genre, every day, brilliant young talented people are creating and sharing their own interpretation of what these genres. With that being said, I think the growth in this genre and all genres is limitless looking forward.

JNTM: Most people we interview hail from Los Angeles, New York, Australia etc. What’s it like producing/djing in Lincoln, Nebraska? The area has always been associated with folksy singer-songwriters, is there a growing scene?

CE: I’ve played in Kansas City, Chicago and San Francisco before and it’s no way similar to any of those places. Lincoln is a quiet, humble little college town but people here are really passionate about music. Surprisingly enough the crowds here go mental, it’s a great time and I’ve had the opportunity from some really great promoters to provide opening support to a lot of great major acts in the last couple years.

Truthfully though, I spend more of my time In Omaha, Nebraska which is the bigger of the two cities, it’s a little more culturally diverse than Lincoln, but it’s still humble pie, Middle America. The difference between a major city and Omaha or Lincoln for me, are that both cities offer less distraction and I think that’s why I’ve based my self here. (for now)

The area might have a reputation for being associated with folk and country from the outsiders perspective but I think it would really surprise people to know that Omaha and Lincoln are home to some really great undiscovered talents in the dance music (or EDM) community. I’m pretty passionate to helping people to find that out as well and recently I’ve helped with Defy Music, along side, Buzz Junior (Andy Garlock) spend almost all of our free time working with young, brilliant, hand-picked local talents creating and sharing music we believe everyone should hear. So, I would definitely say there is a growing scene here.

JNTM: If you could move to one of the big hubs (LA, San Francisco,Chicago, New York ) What would be your first choice and why.

CE: Based on my traveling experience, I love both Chicago and San Francisco. I would probably chose San Francisco of those two because I love the diversity of that city and my Chicago friends party too hard for me to handle on a regular basis (haha).

I’ve never been to New York, but that would be dope too. LA would be great to be among some of the industries best talents right now. I guess I’ll have to make some visits….

Honestly though, it’s hard to say. I don’t feel like where I live defines anything I do creatively, I truly believe I’m going to do whatever it is I do regardless of where I reside.

JNTM:Your lastest track ”Jello” is a bit of a departure from your sound. What was it like working with Inflect? Do you have any more collabs in the works?

CE: I met Brett (Inflect), a few years ago in the local scene, He’s originally from a small central Nebraska town, North Platte, and lived in Lincoln for quite some time but became a transplant to LA in the last year or so. He was in a 4 piece electronic band, Somasphere, and I would run into those guys playing shows and kick with them. Brett and I hit it off pretty quickly, we have a similar sense of humor and like a lot of the same music.

Work with him is a really easy, comfortable process, we just send each other ideas on a regular basis but last winter we decided we wanted to take it seriously and try to release some Dirty Bird, club friendly sounding stuff. When we created “Jello” I had put the vocals on a drum track that I designed, and original I wrote the lead with a softsynth and it was more of a party hard kind of track. Brett switched it up and created that lead, which I was blown away by when I first heard it, and the rest is what you hear now.

Inflect is one of my favorite people to work with and lucky for me he’ll be back in the area this summer, we have a few more ideas we’ve been working on but nothing is final at the moment. I don’t know when it will be, but I can assure you there is more to come from us.

I have a few more collaborations in the works too, I’ll wait until they materialize before I let the cat out of the bag on them though.

JNTM:Tell me a little about Defy Music and how was your experience working with them?

CE: Defy Music is a local label based out of Omaha, NE. It began as a joint operation between: Make Believe Studios ran by Rick Carson and Company, Keith Rodger, who works for Make Believe Records, Defy Gravity, a local production company that throws big events ran by Bobby Barajas and James Fonda and Andy Garlock, a local producer who produces as Buzz Junior.

Andy Garlock is one of my best friends as well as my studio partner and the other half of our side project, Buckhunter. Andy and I were already laying down the foundation of trying to create an independent label on our own when the Defy Gravity guys proposed this opportunity to him. From there, Andy asked me to be apart of this label as both an artist and worth with him on day to day operations. I’m essentially his right hand man at the moment for Defy Music and do a lot of the legwork with him, so my experience is pretty interesting this go-around.

Like I was saying before, we hand pick the talent on our roster and spend a lot of time helping them with every stage of the process as well as give them a platform to put their music out. The roster is small but growing, I hope to expand it nationally in the near future but in the mean time I encourage all to check them out.

JNTM: What are your plans for 2014? Are we going to see Cake Eater on the road?

CE: As far as Cake Eater goes, I’m going to be finishing the material I’ve been working on since the start of the new year. I work on stuff all the time, but I’d like find a platform to release my stuff and maximize the exposure it can get. But, with a lot of the attention I’ve received on the web I feel like I want to give a lot of this stuff out for free and do that soon.

In May, I’ll be on the road to both Denver and Kansas City, but, those are my only travel plans at the moment.

I’m ready and eager to get on the road, live shows are the real reason I work as hard as I do on this stuff. So, to any city that wants me: I am more than down to come play for you.

JNTM:If you could work with any producer right now who would be?

CE: Proxy or Astronomar or Valentino Khan or fuck…..so many that I want to work with!

I’ll say Proxy.

and if not a producer but an Artist,

Missy Elliot

JNTM: Favorite kind of cake?

CE: Cakes that are shaped like a Booty

I was first introduced to DXXXY at the 2014 BUKU Music + Arts Project in New Orleans a few weeks back. I was really just trying to figure out the layout of the festival and see what the whole thing was about.

I heard some incredibly ratchet set happening and started to pick up the pace. Before I knew it I was snapping pictures and dancing my ass off (or as best as a white guy can) to DXXXY’s set.

Afterwards we got to talking and I soon realized that this kid was going to be one of the next biggest names in electronic music. The passion he had about his music, producing, and even designing his own name and brand were all of interest to me.

I checked out more of his music once I got back from NO and found even more goodies. We were fortunate enough to get him on the site for our newest artist spotlight.

JNTM: How did you start producing? What is your background in music?

DXXXY: I started producing by making chopped-n-screwed remixes of New Orleans rap tunes.
However, I played music from a very young age starting with being classically trained in guitar.
I taught myself bass, drums, and keyboard while playing in various bands in New Orleans up until college.

JNTM: What genre, if any, do you like to produce the most? Trap?

DXXXY: I enjoy Trap and bounce/twerk because of the energy and being raised in New Orleans (because of the Cash Money//No Limit influence).

I like making house too (though they’re unreleased) because of the melodies/harmonies I can explore.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/127738917″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_artwork=true” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

JNTM: How would you describe your production style?

DXXXY: Heavy…Dark…Melodic

JNTM: Where does the name DXXXY come from?

DXXXY: It stands for “DEITY” with the middle letters X’d out to pay homage to my metalcore/hardcore days/peeps.

People automatically think that I think I am a God by donning that name, but the name isn’t about that at all.

I was really into Greek mythology at one point, and became fascinated with the idea of Aphrodite. Being into fashion, models, and haute couture I liked how that goddess represented female elegance//beauty//sensuality. So, the name DEITY stands for that.

JNTM: Who are your favorite artists right now? EDM or not

DXXXY: DJ Snake, Ben Khan, Tchami, Jack Novak, Junkie Kid, Samo Sound Boy, Blonde, Oliver Heldens

JNTM: For you, what’s the most difficult thing about being an up-and-comer? And with that, what’s the most important part about being an independent artist on the rise? Do you have a mantra for yourself to stay motivated?

DXXXY: Getting your name out and standing out amongst all the other people trying to do the same thing.

I think one of the most important things is setting goals for yourself, staying focused, and accomplishing those set goals.

My mantra is that NO one is going to do your work for you. I can’t be lazy and expect to get anywhere. Also, I’m doing something that I LOVE to do.

JNTM: What is the New Orleans EDM scene like? Is it any more easy or difficult to make a name for yourself out in the Big Easy?

DXXXY: It’s new and growing. It’s easy to get a start here in New Orleans, but the feel of the Big Easy is more traditionally laidback.

One really has to motivate themselves and stay focused to make a name that not only grabs attention here but outside the city.

JNTM: How involved are you in the design aspects of your brand?

DXXXY: Heavily! I make all of the flyers for my monthly dance parties. I make all of my own artwork for mixes//tracks.

I had a specific idea for my brand from the very beginning, and I make sure I stay on top of that.
I sat with a photographer//artist friend of mine to come up with my logo too.

All of my graphic “skills” (I’m not the best…I just know what look I want to accomplish) are self-taught.

JNTM: What hand did you have in the music video for Kate Moss?

DXXXY: I brought all the ideas of my brand and the feel of the track to director Tyler Yee.
It was a collaboration of ideas to bring together the finished product. He found an amazing team of people to bring on board as far as makeup (Jenny Sauceda), shooting, and styling (Christina Flannery) goes to bring ideas to the melting pot as well.

Even my model friends who were a part of it brought ideas to the table that went with our original treatment.

JNTM: What can we expect in the near future for DXXXY? Tour? EP? New video?

DXXXY: I would love to get a tour going!!! Right now, I’m focusing on getting more of my production out there for 2014.

An EP is in the works, but can’t reveal much more about that right now. A new video will definitely be in the works from the great Tyler Yee. Also, some new material from my production duo Ritual as well as other collaborative projects!

JNTM: A question we always like to ask: if you could have any job in the world besides DJing/Producing, what would it be and why?

DXXXY: Hmm that’s tough because music is my life, but probably something in the fashion industry. Styling…modeling…helping to design something.

Stay tuned later this week for an exclusive mix from DXXXY, only on JNTM!

After hearing a track called “In the Drown” on Reddit, the JNTM crew sprung into action to contact the geniuses responsible. What we found were two soulful, innovative dudes who go by the title Argonaut&Wasp. Luckily for us, they were willing to give us a little insight into their lives and inspiration.

Argonaut&Wasp – In The Drown

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/100370863″ params=”auto_play=false&hide_related=false&visual=true” width=”100%” height=”450″ iframe=”true” /]

JNTM: What is it like to combine live instrumentation with electronic music? How do you guys pull it off?

Argonaut&Wasp: By having the live musicianship combined with electronic elements we are able to design a show that has the effect of an electronic music performance (akin to a dj set – think disclosure) with the live instrumentation of a rock set (think the strokes). It is the best of both worlds.

We utilize ableton live to trigger electronic samples (drums, pads, synths, and FX) combined with live drums, guitar (kevin the guitar guy), bass (Alec Peanut Donkin), and vocals . Through sending a click track (metronome) to our drummer, (Willoughby the Shark) our songs are able to be tight, but have the live element that every band should employ and exercise.

JNTM: Your biography says that you two come from very different musical backgrounds. How so? How did these interests blend to create your sound?

Trey: Radiohead, I am obsessed with Radiohead. Some other large influences are the Strokes, Animal Collective, Modest Mouse, The Rolling Stones, and Kanye West.

Theo: James Brown, Wilco That said – we both use modern technology and the use of electronic production to enhance our sound to blend a mix of socially contrived “genres”.

JNTM: What new music are you listening to at the moment?

A&W: It seems like we are both really digging Charles Bradley, Lee Fields, Sharon Jones (Soul)- and the whole contemporary resurgence of the UK Garage scene.

JNTM: What’s next for you musically?

A&W: We are planning on the release of our brand new Single “Pistol Pump Funk” with a new music video in about a month. Stay tuned.

JNTM: What’s your favorite movie?

A&W: Hard to say – Trey and myself both thoroughly enjoyed the documentary Muscle Shoals (The legendary recording studio(s) in Alabama) – but we also always down for Shrek.

We’ll definitely be watching these guys through the next year as they grow — As for right now, We’re huge fans.

We here at JNTM are beyond excited to introduce a new series called Just A Mix… which will feature some of the best young talent from across the world. Every month we’ll spotlight a different producer who is on their way to becoming the next big thing.

The first installment of Just A Mix… features one of the hardest working up-and-comers I’ve ever had the pleasure of communicating with, Shintaro Yasuda. I was first introduced to Shintaro by our JNTM homie, BRAZZABELLE, who has been working closely with Shintaro. I got a chance to ask Shintaro some questions in addition to getting the inaugural installment of Just A Mix…

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/132408652?secret_token=s-aNzvq” params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_artwork=true” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Download the very first installment of Just A Mix… right here.

JNTM: Who was the first electronic artist that you listened to that made you want to start producing/DJing? Who still inspires you to this day?

Shintaro Yasuda: There were three songs that I remember that made me want to start producing electronic music. Chuckie’s “Let the Bass Kick” which I heard for the first time at my high school prom haha. It blew my mind.

The other two were Laidback Luke and Steve Angello’s remake of “Show Me Love” and Steve Aoki’s “Warp 1.9”

All of these producers still inspire me today because they’ve all been successful and have created their own signature sound, while still evolving with the progression and style changes of today’s music.

JNTM: Give us some background on yourself and your history working in music.

SY: I started at the age of 3 as a classically and jazz trained pianist in Miami. My career was focused on piano performance up until a few years ago. I’ve played in many bands, orchestras, solo performances, and as a studio musician.

I’ve picked up on a few instruments including guitar, bass, drums, saxophone, and clarinet. I then moved to LA where I attended school for audio engineering.

JNTM: What do you think the hardest thing is about getting started/getting your name out there, etc?

SY: Everything! Being able to stand out of the crowd can definitely be a challenge among the sea of producers and DJs especially when you’re trying to get your first few tracks heard.

JNTM: Do you think collaboration is a big part of getting your foot in the door? Why or why not?

SY: Absolutely. I found a lot of my growth as a producer was from being able to sit in a room with another producer and work on a track.

It’s always refreshing to learn and see how another individual’s approach to creating or editing can teach you to look at things differently and you can always pick up on a couple tips and tricks. It’s also more fun to be sitting in a studio with someone than being alone for 12 hours haha.

JNTM: What’s one of the biggest moments you had in 2013? What do you look forward to in 2014?

SY: Definitely opening up my own studio out here in LA was one the best things of 2013. Also meeting and getting a ton of feedback and support from producers and DJs I admire has been amazing!

2014 will be a busy year and I’m looking forward to be releasing a bunch of tracks and coming to a city near you! I also look forward to just be growing as a musician, producer, and person.

JNTM: Who are some of your favorite artists right now? EDM or not.

SY: Some of my favorite EDM artists that I’m really into right now are Brazzabelle, GTA, Wiwek, D.O.D, Juyen Sebulba, Laidback Luke, Autoerotique, Steve Aoki and Nervo. Some non EDM artists that I’m really into are Jojo, Leah Labelle, Tori Kelly, and Nikki Yanofsky.

I’ve been nostalgic lately so I’ve been listening to 90s/2000s Pop and Hip-hop.

JNTM: The EDM culture as a whole has been growing exponentially over the past few years — what are your thoughts on that? Do you think it’s a good thing or potentially a bad thing?

SY: I think it’s amazing. It’s great to see music I enjoy creating and listen to grow and become more popular by the day in all parts of the world.

JNTM: What’s one of the most embarrassing things to have happened to you on stage? How did you recover?

SY: Being as clumsy as I am, I remember playing keys in a gig once and spilled a drink all over my gear and had to stop in the middle of playing to switch out a keyboard haha.

JNTM: What do your parents think of you being a producer/DJ? Are they caught up on the culture and do they understand/support what you’re doing?

SY: My parents have always supported me since the day I picked up an instrument. My dad’s an old fashioned Japanese father so I don’t think he understands the culture but he’s always supported me in everything I do as long as I’m putting in the right work ethic.

JNTM: If you could have any other profession other than producing/djing what would it be and why?

That’s a tough one because all I’ve ever known was music but I did play paintball at a pro level for a while so maybe that. I also like arguing so maybe a lawyer haha!

Hello friends,

My name is David Klemow, I am a new contributor to the JustNoiseToMe team, and I am looking forward to serving up some funky good stuff for you to get down to. I am 21 years young living in beautiful Tucson, Arizona. I am in my senior year at the University of Arizona, where the weather is warm and the good times are always rolling. We are all here because its all about the music, but before I get into any of that, I’ll let you in on a little bit more about myself.

First, my favorite drink in the entire world is water. I love water; the fresh, cool, deliciously crisp taste of water in unmatched by anything and I consider that a huge part of who I am. Second, an equally core element of my being, is that I am the world’s greatest Dachshund lover, and I take wiener dogs very seriously. I like to think of myself as rugged, although most of my friends would consider me sensitive. I am like a bull in a china shop when it comes to Super Smash Bros on N64. I like to pretend I am a world famous DJ, but most of those daydreams are played out in my boxers blasting bass music in my bedroom. Most importantly about me though, is that I live for dance music and I am proud to have a place where I’ll be able to share my thoughts with other fans.

I love dance music from all across the spectrum. Everyone from Justice to Dog Blood, What So Not to Paper Diamond, Major Lazer, Dillon Francis, A-Trak, Zeds Dead, Wolfgang Gartner, and everything in between. I can’t list all my favorite producers here, the list is lengthy. My love for electronic music spans across trap music, nu-disco, big room house, dubstep, dance hall, and electro-house. I have an unhealthy obsession with Skrillex, similar to “Beiber fever” or whatever. It actually gets a little weird. Too many times have I stood in front of the mirror with my buzzers wondering if I could pull off his haircut– I always back out at the last second.

I have traveled far and wide devouring dance music everywhere from small clubs to enormous festivals, and I hope to one day make that my big boy job. I actually had the pleasure of accompanying our fearless leader and lifelong friend Sam on an epic trip to Lights All Night and Snowglobe in the end of 2013. The best way to describe my taste and my undying love for this music would be to offer up my favorite 15 tracks on my iPod as of now. Check them out, drop me a line if you feel some of these grooves, and get excited for what we have coming. Feel free to follow me on twitter too @daverighteous1. Lastly, I will propose the following. Keep an open mind and give everything a listen. You might find that what is “just noise to me,” could be your next favorite song. And that is the name of the game.

Lets get this party rockin’,

I am 22, studying journalism at the University of Arizona and 4’11” from New Jersey – and no, I am not a midget! Go look it up yourself if you don’t believe me. After all, I am going to be coming at you with the newest tunes weekly so you better put your trust into my music standards.

I am interested in all varieties of music. When I look for songs, I pay extensive detail to the drops and listen to what parts of the song will actually pull a listener in. I love the music festival scene; along my journey so far I have been to HARD Fest and Electric Daisy Carnival and I plan on attending many, many more!

If you are interested in seeing what my taste in music is all about, here are my top favorites currently on my playlist, ranging from Disclosure to Tiesto, Audien to Knife Party and tons in between. I hope you enjoy my music as much as I do!
