LA-based phenom, Drezo, is putting one foot in the door as he establishes his own brand of dark, groovy house music with a fresh twist of hip-hop, marking a new intersection for rap and dance music. Bringing hip-hop down into his own framework of hollow, ice-cold UK-inspired garage-house, Drezo’s latest remix is one to be reckoned with. For his latest undertaking, the young up-and-comer lesser known as Andre Haglund, is taking on Lil Wayne’s 2008 smash hit, “A Milli.” If you haven’t heard of Drezo yet, that is all about to change. And if you thought “A Milli” rinsed out for you before flip phones went out of style, this remix will have you replaying it all day long.

Drezo brings in sinister synths to wind around Wayne’s iconic lyrics, working in distant hisses and metallic clinks to drive the shuffling house beat onward. The tune reinvents its original counterpart, working in a backbone of thumping bass lines and dropping pitch-bending vocal samples in the right spots. Drezo pulls together the key elements from the original, but then takes the reigns to deliver some of his best work so far, shaping one of Lil Wayne’s biggest radio hits to a mean club-primed heater.

As a true hip-hop connoisseur, I love Alex Wiley‘s introduction into the hip hop game. He brings a refreshing sound to an already booming scene out in Chicago.

Chicago’s popping off right now, with artists such as Chief Keef, Sir Michael Rocks,  and Chance the Rapper hitting the big time. It’s a perfect place for a budding beat man like Wiley.
Wiley’s sophomore album just dropped it’s second single called ‘Vibration’ a few months ago, which proves Wiley’s come to play with the big dogs. The soul empowering track that has a Chance the Rapper sound to it with Wiley’s “I dont give a fuck attitude.”

Wiley’s street sounds and soulful keys go well with his boastful approach to the soulful track. It makes for an uplifting, I’m my own man and I do what I do, and I don’t care what you have to say about it track.

Now enter HONEST and his straight feel good, happy-vibed more EDM based sound. HONEST Remixed Wiley’s ‘Vibrations’ today into a sun setting beach banger. If it doesn’t get you on your feet dancing, you just need to release your mind and imagine the beach harder.

I turned my volume to the max as those dancey piano keys start jumping and I start dancing right there in my kitchen. Dear god, then Wiley’s vocals hit with HONEST’s xylophones behind him. The remix has me chanting and feeling like i’m on top of the world. Something HONEST tracks tend to do to me with their upbeat happy energy.

I give Wiley a ton of credit, but HONEST’s total transformation of ‘Vibrations’ is just as respected in my eyes. I love that both tracks put you in completely different moods but both execute said moods perfectly. I feel braggy and boastful with Wiley and HONEST has me dancing with my feet in the sand.

Get ready for some serious nostalgia as X5IGHT launches their remix for The Fray’s “How to Save a Life,” originally released in August of 2004. Personally, I think 10 years was the perfect amount of time to wait before remixes this song, especially because X5IGHT was able to turn what was once the most annoying song to hear on the radio (and shitty teen dramas) into a heavy-hitting, festival-ready banger.

It’s finals week here at the University of Arizona, and Tommy Trash’s podcast is exactly what my ears have been waiting for to get my through the tedious studying and memorizing.

Tommy Trash opens up his 17^th episode of Trashed with a brand new remix by Kryder and Tom Staar called “Apocalypse,” which leads swiftly into the Nightwatch remix of I Am Legion’s “Choosing For You,” which I think is a phenomenal track. The first time I heard this song was at Create in LA; Audien dropped this and I went crazy. If you’re looking for an upbeat track with an intense and funky drop, this is it.

Up next, “Agadir” by the Belgium trio GSUS! which I’ve never heard before, but I love it. And so does Tommy Trash, calling it “a little bit weird, a little bit heavy, love it.” Next is a new track by Sick Individuals, “Rock & Rave.” Not going to lie, the beat in this song reminds me of a combination of Swedish House Mafia’s Greyhound and We Come We Love We Rave.

“Bazooka” by Firebeatz, Fedde Le Grand’s “Don’t Give Up,” a Funkin Matt remix of Peking Duk’s “High,” “Amen” by Merk & Kremont and “Freaks” by Nilson follows next.

But what’s a Tommy Trash podcast without one of his productions? Out on Spinning Records now is Tommy Trash & KillaGraham’s “The Little Death.”

Tommy Trash then leads into a DJ Snake Parisian Vision remix of Lil Jon’s “Turn Down For What.” I think this version is actually better than the original. Maybe it’s because the original version of “Turn Down For What” is well overplayed and it’s refreshing to hear a different beat for the chorus, but whatever DJ Snake did works extremely well in this remix.

Trashed is closed with Tom Jame Jaggs’ “Blazin” which has a terrific beat, a Cobra Bootleg of Swedish House Mafia’s “Leave The World Behind” (which I am extremely fond of, because if you’re going to do a remix of one of SHM’s biggest hits it better be nothing less than amazing) and lastly an Alex Metric Remix to London Grammar’s “Hey Now” which brings Tommy Trash’s Trashed Episode 17 to a close.

As always, Tommy Trash surprises me with another amazing set of songs. I can’t wait to see what his next has in store!

Diplo is a superstar, there is no doubt about that. He may be the hardest working man in dance music. At the front lines of Mad Decent‘s world domination, delivering his weekly Saturday night shakedown over BBC Radio 1’s airwaves, with block parties, boat parties, and everything in between somehow the main stage mayhem maker still has time to salute loyal fans in the best way possible. Music. A whole bunch of it. For free.

To commemorate reaching one million followers on Facebook, Diplo and some of his friends deliver a nine track bootleg pack pro bono that is absolutely loaded with heaters for the coming summer months. The bootleg pack dips and weaves through a grip of genres, leaving no taste unsatisfied. A pulverizing trap gem collaboration with Grandtheft, “Pretty With Her Eyes Low” offers a grimy down-tempo appeal with clean hip-hop sampling and a bombastic break. Party Favor‘s explosive twerk inspired edit of Diplo’s classic rump shaker “Express Yourself” is sure to become a festival anthem. A joint effort with Jeffrees producer Davoodi, “Badman” comes through as a sort of Belgian born industrial hard style techno hybrid.

Wes leaves no stone unturned offering dance hall beats and glitch-hop on the same edit pack, but ultimately that is quintessential Diplo. And with one million thumbs up to prove it, Diplo shows us once again why he is the man.

Well. Where do I start? The fact that Disney is TRYING to get into EDM, or the fact that Armin van Buuren would risk his career and do a remix to the most obnoxious song from the Disney soundtrack Frozen?

I don’t know what the BuzzFeed writer was smoking when they called the result of van Buuren’s remix to Frozen’s “Let It Go” as “pretty damn awesome,” because this is actually one of the most miserable songs I’ve heard in a while. It’s actually SO BAD that it’s kinda humorous. Leave it to us EDM experts to write a proper review on van Burren’s productions, since we know good music. And this is not good music whatsoever.

When I first pressed play on the video that BuzzFeed premiered, I couldn’t believe how unbelievably corny the song sounded corresponding with the visuals in the video. Yeah, the visuals are kinda cool, but most certainly not epic. But c’mon van Buuren. You’re embarrassing yourself here.

This song is one of the worst I have heard in a while – almost so terrible that I had to turn it off half way through.

I am not criticizing van Buuren as a producer, but this song is definitely going to be a downfall in his career. Unless he’s trying to bring in 10 year olds as his audience, and I don’t think that is the case.

I know these Disney’s fanatics will not be downloading van Buuren’s “Ping Pong,” that’s for sure. And I highly doubt their parents will let them see van Buuren perform live, since for the most part you have to be 18+ to attend festivals and concert venues.

Is this Disney’s attempt to try to get their viewers into the EDM festival and concert scene? I don’t think that is a smart move on their part, considering what EDM has known to be associated with in the past. And we know how naive children can be who still have much more to learn.

So I’m confused – what’s the theory behind producing a song that is not even enjoyable to listen to, unless it’s all a joke? For van Buuren’s sake, I hope it is.

And here’s a little laugh for all my fellow students out there struggling through finals. At least this one has a catchy tune. Apparently there’s a Frozen song for everything!
