Skrillex and Boys Noize joined forces in 2013 to create a monster with their in-your-face fusion of sounds, and as quickly as they took over the world, Dog Blood quietly disappeared back into the abyss. Now slated to make their hallowed return at Detroit’s summer homage to techno, Movement Festival, Dog Blood gave fans a little treat to tide over hungry appetites. Releasing their 7am live set from Spain’s Monegros Festival, Sonny and Alex are alluding to a highly-anticipated comeback, offering up a tech-heavy hour and a half long free download.

Beware, any preconceived notion of Dog Blood should be left at the door. The set isn’t the super-duo’s usual high-velocity throat kicking action, but rather a long form bout of acid house and tech house mastery. Working in bits of glitch-hop and groovy deep house cuts, Skrillex and Boys Noize finesse their way through 90 minutes of techno like you would expect only these legends could.

This will be Daniel Bell’s first full LP after seven years and plenty of smaller releases, you can definitely hear those different times passing through the record. I like to file Red Souvenirs under my own personal  “workinonit” genre — which essentially means, this is great music to be hypnotized by and create, code, write, or study to. Look out for this one, especially you folks in Germany!

Also, I grew up on a street called Woodland Drive, so here is his track Woodland Drive–which means we may or may not be former neighbors who made techno with Fisher Price keyboards. But probably not.

The track is classic Kygo, which is saying a lot since he has his own style and is relatively new to the dance world. While summer has come and gone, this new track brings a fresh tropical vibration to this frigid winter air. Synth lines peppered throughout “Firestone” can cheer you up, even if you’re looking at grey skies and a space heater.

Swapping out the bubbly synths for some sharper buzzsaw stabs, Endor out-UK’s the British brotherly duo. The hats are more pronounced and the kicks are even fuller than the ones on the original.

Overall it sounds a lot more like trance/deep house than pop. Maybe it has something to do with the soulful male vocals that replaced the more nasal pitch provided by Aluna Francis on the album cut.

Lately Endor’s releases have been consistently awesome. Let’s see if he keeps the streak going! In the meantime, check out more radical house tracks from the man himself on Soundcloud:

This isn’t the first we’ve heard from the anonymous Miami techno outfit, and it certainly won’t be the last. As per usual, the Sluggers bring a slew of booty tech bass lines accented with a variety of industrial synths, thumping breakbeat kicks, and hypnotizing hi-hat/sample combos.

Here’s a wicked video they put out last week for their single, “Turbo Fade”.

This is textbook OWSLA behavior—we expected nothing more, nothing less. The label has been releasing EPs from plenty of monochromatic, breaks-heavy artists like Alesia, Wuki,and The Widdler as of late.

Hence, we really have nothing to complain about; this is 47 minutes of unadulterated eargasm. If you’re an up-and-coming DJ, this is the mix you play in public. Props to these guys and/or gals for cooking up a cohesive mix that still appeals to a diverse audience.

Wondering who Sluggers really is? So are we. For all we know, it could be these guys on the decks…

(TurtleTip: As far as I’m concerned, Sluggers could be my dad and his golf buddies. They still tear shit up!)

Our second mix is brought to you by international house duo, BLACK GIRL/WHITE GIRL. Hailing from Amsterdam and Tel Aviv respectively, the self-proclaimed “empresses of house and bass” offer a combination of deep, tropical, funk, and 90s house.

This mix was dedicated to a UK production company Grey Paper Film and features a booty house rendition of Let It Bump by Missy Elliot and Timbaland, only one of countless examples of the influential hip-hop duo’s rekindled popularity over the past year or so.

BG/WG has yet to release any of their own tracks, but their frequent mixes will hold us over for now. They’ve gone on record saying they have a finished album they’re waiting to drop. So be on the lookout!

Aside from the clean, bouncy grooves displayed by the duo, it’s refreshing to see some female talent kicking ass in the EDM world. In an industry that’s seemingly dominated by men, we can only hope that more female acts will surface throughout the year.

As long as they’re absolutely NOTHING like this…(TurtleTip: Believe it or not, mixing requires a lot of dedication and skill. Don’t try to fake it, unless you have a gazillion dollar trust fund or an atrocious public image to dwarf your fraudulence.)

For those of you who haven’t been paying attention this past year, disco is making a huge comeback in EDM. Dance music itself was borne from the gold-dipped days of the discotheque. Even in today’s scene, popular subgenres like deep house, nu-disco, and future funk are heavily influenced by the four-on-the-floor flavor of 70s nightclub culture.

The event will feature legendary acts like Chic ft. Nile Rodgers and Giorgio Moroder, as well as newer disco-heavy artist like Oliver, Tensnake, and the Godfather himself, HARD Founder and Captain of the #shipfam, Destructo.

If you’re anywhere near the West Coast and you know what’s good for ya, you won’t miss out on what’s bound to be a monumental experience. Best believe the JNTM Squadron will be in full force keeping you updated on whatever sort of magic HARD has in store for us!
