As we approach the halfway mark of the 2010s, music from the aughts is now considered “vintage”. Brought to you by LA’s premier vintage boutique, Tried and True Co., this mix is chock full of semi-old school jams. The tracklist includes iconic hip-hop hits like Mystikal‘s “Shake It Fast” and “Sunshine” by Lil’ Flip.

In 2014, music is all about aesthetic or having a distinct persona. The Selector Series is a another prime example of the recent wave of beatmakers pairing up with fashion brands to release killer tunes via the inner. Fuck a record deal!

I got roughly an hour of sleep, cranked out two final projects, and took my car to the local Pep Boys. Safe to say, it’s time for some unwinding.

Thus, I sit here calmly sipping a Lagunitas limited release ale, listening to Dubbel Dutch’s dancehall fusion mix. And I must say, it perfectly compliments not only the egregious amount of hops swirly around in my craft brew, but the overarching necessity for relaxation.

It’s no secret that FADER Magazine is a staple of contemporary youth culture, especially music. If you’re not familiar with it, you’ve got some catching up to do.

Dubbel Dutch, however, is a much lesser known entity (ZOMG can’t you tell I’ve been putting my creative writing juices to use all day?!).

The Brooklyn artist has been described as “An accomplished producer of cosmic tone poems and club anthems from the abyss”.

His Caribbean-influenced mix a perfect example of one such “tone poem”. Packed with poppy dancehall tracks and stanzas of Jamaican pidgin, Dubbel Dutch establishes himself as a master of aestheticism, remaining loyal to the island jam #vibezz throughout.

Again, this mix is perfect for maxin’ and relaxin’. Throw some of this rudeboy flava on after a hard days work and you’ll be feeling like a Rasta in no time.

Straight up, the Doc knows best. This LA-based beat selektah/ ill producer dropped a refreshing EP last year (it’s still up for free download on his Soundcloud, do yourself a favor and grab it) and has been putting out remixes, and mixes on the reg ever since.

The Too Future feature perfectly exemplifies LA dance music culture. The second track is a rework of Dr. Dre‘s “Xxplosive”, a clear shout out to his fellow medical practitioner and Angelino producer extraordinaire.

Rest assured you can count on Fresch to put the city on his back this summer with loads of sonic gems.

It’s rumored that the two M.D.s will use their specialized skill sets for a summer collab on a track to teach kids the dangers of marijuana. Because everyone knows that dope is for losers and you’ll never be successful if you try it…

BeauDamian hails from the Netherlands and is chief of Doggtown Records, a Dutch outfit consisting of Damian, GANZ, Guerilla Speakerz, and others.

The first half of the Too Future mix laden with uplifting lovetrap jawns, a few Smash Bros. samples, and some quasi-tribal 808 patterns. The back end contains a substantial amount of clubby Damian originals and reworks.

Shining moments include UK producer Melé‘s ghettotech track, “The Boogaloo” and Doggtown labelmate GANZ’s orchestral remix of “Tell Me”. He even drops a remix of Chance the Rapper‘s “Good Ass Intro”. The Amsterdam DJ is undoubtedly among the growing number of other Dutch artists to look out for this summer.

As soon as I started bumping this mix, I knew almost instantly I had to feature it for TGT. Damian evokes a diverse array of feelies without losing his overarching voice—the sign of a true selektah. He had me feelin’ some type of way for sure. In fact, I probably looked a little something like this…

This Run the Trap exclusive is textbook Team Supreme behavior: dreamy, R&B influenced trap music littered with tons of unreleased remixes and codeine-laced originals. Combining traditional chopped ‘n’ screwed techno trap heaters with tribal club rump shakers, LION KNGS achieves a new level of nasty.

Comprised of TK Kayembe of Boulder, CO and King Henry of LA, underground overlords bring a gritty soundscape to the table complimented by their crispy transitions and cinematic builds.

I imagine this mix sounds a lot like the type of music Lil’ Wayne would hear if he gave up on his prestigious career as a rock musician and copped a pair of paisley, red CDJs.

Team Supreme epitomizes the LA beat scene. Renowned for having a forward-thinking approach to the art of mixing as well as being perhaps LA’s most prolific DJ crew, Team Supreme is home to some personal favorites like Djemba Djemba, Mr. Carmack, Great Dane, and Penthouse Penthouse.

Having a huge hand in the progression of the LA underground and EDM in general (think the recent rise of booty tech and Jersey/Baltimore club), footwork music serves as the basis for a variety of budding dance music genres. That said, the EDM community has a lot to thank DJ Rashad for, despite the fact that he passed way before his time.

Nevertheless, it’s tributes like this mix as well as the success of a new generation of artists that will ensure Rashad’s widespread influence is carried on.

Having released a series of teasers as well as a cherubic full-length rendition of What So Grime‘s “Tell Me” just hours ago, there’s no question as to whether the Amsterdam bass wizard has plenty of magic up his sleeve waiting to be unleashed.

GANZ experienced his biggest burst of recognition when he dropped a remix of the popular Hermitude x Flume collab, “Hyperparadise”, which received over 250,000 plays on Soundcloud. Not a bad way to start the New Year, eh?

Although he didn’t make the official HARD Summer 2014 lineup (where you at Gary Richards?), GANZ is certainly an artist you don’t want to sleep on this year. Who knows? Maybe he could be the next Diplo….

Okay probably not, but he’s definitely worth a listen.
