A few days ago, Phuture Doom released the Bong-Ra remix of Phuneral Phuture. Today, the strange Detroit trio has updated the Phuturism.org website with some new and bizarre stuff.

When you first log onto the site, you’ll see a blinking cursor. Type anything in and it will change the text to the same one used by the group. Looks something like this:

J̶̢͔̾u̸̟̅̀͌͝s̸̰̝̜̠̕t̷̓ͅ ̸̢̪́̊͠Ṇ̷̮̰͎̳̋̔̔͒͝o̷̟̝̮̬͆į̵̖͉͉̜̍̽s̴̫͛͊͂̆̑ȅ̵̢̗̲̪̈́̉̊̂ ̶̨͉͚̪̐̋̚̕T̸̻̮̠̉̏͑o̵͍̖͋͋̈͂ ̴̥͍̬͑M̸̻̓e

Pretty weird, huh? Click ‘enter’ and you’re taken to another page with the Phuture Doom logo. You’ll see one blinking green dot. Click on that and the new remix from Bong-Ra will play.

If anything, the group continues to prove themselves as being kings of online marketing. They are constantly one-upping themselves in terms of creeping people out in order to keep their name and brand alive.

There was a good period of time where my life was constantly haunted by Phuture Doom: I would spend my days searching for their true identities, trying to solve every riddle they left on their website, and reading countless forums and blogs to try and figure out what the f*ck the group even was and why they were making music to begin with. But after a while I gave up hope.

Since the release of their self-titled debut LP (along with The Book of Nightfall), the trio of OWSLAnauts have been scarcely seen. With the help of Revolver Magazine, Phuture Doom released a 30-minute mix entitled “Limbs of the Network,” which left anything but satisfied. The mix, made up of breakbeat and white noise, was more annoying than enjoyable… but I think that was the point.

Phuture Doom – Limbs of the Network:

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/132249959″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_artwork=true” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]

Yesterday, about a month after Limbs of the Network was released, I saw a post on Instagram from the group that finally had me interested. It was a picture as puzzling as anything else the group has released: a distorted picture of radio towers and a barbed wire fence with a house and giant plume of smoke in the background.. a radioactive testing facility or possible a jail?

The caption for the image: “T̸̕R҉̡A̢N͞SMÌS̡҉S̛͘I҉̸̸O͜N 0̡1̀ + 32.133333,-106.597222 phuturism.org”

Luckily, one of the comments lead me to a private version of a “track” consisting of, you guessed it, white noise, radio transmission, and some hardcore breakbeat. I’d share the private link, but it’s literally the same sounds you’ll here by going to Phuturism.org.

Could this be a sign of a new EP or single on the way? Maybe the group is finally getting ready to head out on tour? My guess is probably the former, seeing as the trio likes their identity to remain completely unknown. Whether it’s a new track or a tour, I’m sure Phuture Doom has something epic in store for us all.

Remember your metal phase? Sure you do, it’s why you cover your photo on your driver’s license when you have to show it to somebody, it’s why there’s a box of black shirts that say “Black Dahlia Murder” in your mom’s closet. If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably grown out of your society-hating, “I think-I’m-gonna-die-my-hair-black“ phase, and moved on to music that isn’t about murder, dragons, and murdering dragons. You don’t need metal anymore. It’s not you, metal, it’s us.

Problem is, Detroit-based electronic-metal group Phuture Doom refuses to take that lying down.

Phuture Doom is the embodiment of all the best parts of your old metal phase; their intense, rage-face inducing double bass rhythms, deep, gritty guitar riffs, and head-banging breakdowns bring you right back to your friend’s mom’s basement. In a good way.

Their recent performance at HARD Day of the Dead was their first ever live performance, and as we’ve been following the mysteriously eerie trio for a bit, we were excited to see just what Phuture Doom is all about.

I saw a drum kit. Guitars. No one knew quite what to expect. The guy next to me leaned over and belted “DUDE. I heard that one of these dudes is Kill the Noise!” At that point, the show hadn’t started and his yelling into my ear was pretty unjustified, and as I turned to give him a sarcastic “Oh really?”,three people (Guys? Girls? Who knows?) walked onto stage in black cloaks, and this happened:

So, iphone-quality video doesn’t quite do their performance justice, but believe me, it was awesome. I think I even threw up the devil horns a couple times.

Seeing a live band playing alongside a DJ was one of the most fresh and exhilarating experiences; instead of a repetitive drum track, some nameless badass behind a kit ushered in the drops. Instead of the “press play” type of sets that we’ve been growing accustom to, three live musicians tore it up for a crowd that was unjustifiably small.

Phuture Doom, as it seems, is on to something completely new. Their perplexing visuals, genre-defying sound, and cryptic outfits are unlike anything we’re seen previously in the EDM scene, and, by the looks of the crowd after their 30-minute set, it seems like these guys are on their way to the top.

Phuture Doom is your metal phase grown up a bit, matured, and refined. Hopefully, their originality in their sound will inspire other artists to follow suit.

In the meantime, Phuture Doom’s first (and self-titled) EP is out on OWSLA Records. Give it a listen, and, if you’re up for it, try to decode the crazy hieroglyphics all over their webpage. We haven’t quite cracked it yet, but I’m sure there’s something awesome in there.

Gary Richards’ (AKA Destructo)’s renowned EDM festival returned with a bang this fall, bringing with it a devastating lineup, improved security procedures, and much more, making it one of the most enjoyable and powerful HARD experiences to date.

Following HARD Summer, it seemed nearly impossible that Live Nation Entertainment could compose a rivaling set of DJs and artists for Day of the Dead, but the return of veterans to the scene such as Skrillex, Nero, Zeds Dead, Calvin Harris, and many others brought the same jaw-clenching intensity that we’ve all grown to expect from the festival.

While the big names dominated the later time slots of the weekend, some of the biggest surprises and most impressive performances took place before the sunset. Lesser known artists such as David Heartbreak, Solidisco, and GTA provided a refreshing variety of sounds, including head-banging drops, groovy beats, and in-your-face-style trap, respectively.

Getting to the venue early in the day isn’t a priority for most, but those who made the effort this year were treated with stellar performances from the newcomers of the scene. Them Jeans, Dusky, and a first-ever performance by Phuture Doom ensured that everyone was dancing from their first steps into the park.

While all the performers definitely proved themselves worthy of playing under the HARD logo, the buzz on everyone’s lips was the monumental finishing set by the iconic A-lister Deadmau5.

New tracks, unexpected remixes of old ones, and soulful piano breaks made the mau5 the must-see set of the night that left many leaving the festival in tears (despite his sound cutting out, which he justified by announcing “I meant to do that, I’m like…the 12th best in the world at this…”).

The music aside, Day of the Dead 2013 was the most neatly put together and least problematic HARD Presents… event to date. Long gone were the winding barricades that left event-goers in a riot-like frenzy last year, as well as the nonrefillable $5 waters that quickly emptied everyone’s wallets.

Instead, a more succinct and speedy trip through security put guests in the festival within minutes, and several water-refilling stations kept them hydrated through the day and into the night (although they did seem to have a tendency to break down during peak hours).

Gary Richards and Live Nation Entertainment really pulled it together this year for HARD Day of the Dead, putting together one of the hottest lineups around, fixing issues with previous events, and keeping legions of sweaty dancers safe and hydrated. As the L.A. Historic Park returns to its normal state, we’ll all be marking our calendars in anticipation for the next one.

With less than two weeks to go, Destructo aka Gary Richards has released the official HARD Day of the Dead 2013 set times. As always, there are some real tough decisions to make with this year’s show. That’s just how it goes with any festival.

One thing that sets this festival apart from any other Halloween-themed EDM festival, or any HARD Presents… festival is the fact that this one actually showcases some otherwise hard-to-see and lesser known acts. Artists like Them Jeans, Tokimonsta, Henry Krinkle, and Thee Mike B are just some of the artists that are, unfortunately, most likely under most people’s radars this fall.

This increase in lesser-known artists could also create a problem for the festival as a whole, as most attendees will choose to start arriving later in the evening to see the more popular artists (like Skrillex), creating a massive line and an increase in waiting time. Last year, this resulting in complete chaos as concert-goers began literally throwing barricades and trampling over people to get in faster. There was also an incident involving an angry mob tipping over a golf cart on it’s way to deliver more water.

Either way, we’ve taken the time to map out some must-see acts, scheduling surprises, and acts to pass:

HARD Day of the Dead 2013 Must-See Acts

Phuture Doom: This will be Phuture Doom’s first live set EVER. No one knows anything about these guys, so it would be a huge opportunity for anyone to get to see the group in the flesh. We predict they’ll play their audio book “Phuturism: The Book of Nightfall” for the most part…

Gaslamp Killer: By far one of the most unique artists on the lineup this year, Gaslamp Killer is a must see for multiple reasons. This guy brings an energy to the stage most DJs probably think is a little much. To fans, however, Gaslamp Killer is one of the funnest performers to take the stage anytime, anyplace. Plus, he was the star of the HARD Day of the Dead trailer!

Them Jeans: With his high energy and incredible mixing abilities, Los Angeles based producer Them Jeans is on our list a must-see at this year’s Hard Day of the Dead. With multiple remixes of artists like Bloc Party, The XX, and Rihanna, you’ll definitely want to catch this artist on the rise before he gets to high!

Baauer b2b RL Grime: Two of the biggest names in trap music right now, Baauer and RL Grime return to LA State Historic Park but this time as a team. This pairing is going to be one of the coolest sets of the entire weekend for seemingly obvious reasons.

Deadmau5: What might seem as an obvious choice, Deadmau5 is our absolutely must-see artist of the entire festival. Playing his first live show in quite sometime, the mau5 will no doubt return with some incredible visuals and will most likely be debuting some of the tracks he’s been previewing online.

HARD Day of the Dead 2013 Scheduling Surprises

Nero // Boys Noize // Zeds Dead: It’s totally understandable that the main stage would be the hardest (no pun intended) to schedule, but you would think that the minds behind the program would think to at least spread out these acts across a few different stages. The most unfortunate thing is that this stage is going to packed for the entire night, though with good reason.

Paper Diamond // Pretty Lights: This is more of a pleasant surprise, mainly because most attendees will want to see both Pretty Lights and Deadmau5, which would not have been possible if the order had been switched. This could be unfortunate for Paper Diamond, but with such a killer set at this year’s HARD Summer, it’s possible he’ll still have a packed crowd at the HARDer stage.

Cirez D // Bloody Beetroots: Bloody Beetroots not headlining the night? This might be another switch up created so people can see Skrillex.

HARD Day of the Dead 2013 Acts to Pass

Skrillex: Unless you haven’t seen Skrillex at any show, festival, tour, or anywhere else, there’s really no point in seeing him again. Yes, he’s been putting out some new remixes and collaborations, but seriously? Another HARD event with Skrillex as a headliner? Go to Lunice! Go see Master at Work! Skrillex is a great DJ and a fantastic producer, but you can spend your time

Since their announcement of a new album last month, we’ve been on the edge of our collective seat anticipating what might be next. Then, we heard they had been added to the HARD Day of the Dead lineup and our excitement level went through the roof.

Now, the group has released one of the most insane things we have seen come out of the EDM scene probably ever: The Book of Nightfall. To our understanding, The Book of Nightfall is the first “scripture” of Phuturism, a new cult-driven religion that believes technology and humanity will somehow merge into one singular entity to reach a god-like status.

Phuture Doom has also released a new definition of what the name actually means:

Phuture Doom is a worldview merging occult ritual and transhumanism—an audiovisual infrastructure of clashing system functions—a revelation of human choices. The singularity nearing, cries to slow mechanization intensified but the waste patterns of modern consumerism persisted, nailing shut the coffin of our collapse. Forged from the limbs of the network, Black Acid poured from it’s sutures and prophesied the integration of man and machine, the advent of a new human kind.

The video/audiobook of The Book of Nightfall describes an eerie and not-so-far-off future in which humans are able to connect with each other by the means of “transhumanism” and singularity. The “book,” which is based on ACTUAL things happening in today’s society, isn’t really too far off with it’s predictions.

In all honesty, we’re still scratching our heads with this one, but take a look for yourself and see what you come up with:

We’ve even gone so far as to transcribe the actual Book of Nightfall for all the other die-hard Phuture Doom fans out there:

The Book of Nightfall is the first published scripture of Phuturism.

PHUTURISM: The Book of Nightfall

I. PROGRESS & INFORMATION̸

We can consider the history of humanity through its evolving relationship to time. The invention of the clock during the Renaissance gave birth to the industrial age and a culture of scheduling and productivity. A more profound transformation manifested as men switched from a culture of time to a culture of technology and computer programmed logic.

Relentless technological interaction created a human race addicted to calculation and quantification. A virtual and digital sixth continent emerged in parallel to the physical world, and the use of electronic tools allowed human access. The old world of values was disappearing with technology faster than thought. But the new world had, for the most part, arisen without a thoughtful architecture or blueprint.̀

II. ECONOMY͘
The hegemony of calculation developed daily life and the intangible began to supplant the real. Comparing the human brain to an extraordinary computer objectified the individual, forcing a reorganization of perception. The value of an individual’s brain is developed in the economy, and to the extent that an individual is his brain, he fought to avoid its disturbances and utilize tricks to improve its functioning. Competitive advantages raised the standard of competition as each person became his own company.

The objective was to improve the competitive performance of world economies by increasing the performance of individuals. Expansion and Performance are two key concepts for understanding how links have been built between trans-humanist thought and neoliberal logic. The adaptability of individuals in all circumstances was the rule which increased competitive advantage against those who abstained.

A functional society was born, turning the individual into a technical fragment, a detached part of the species. Science was no longer only a means of innovation, but the way of life and existence. By agreeing to be an animal like the others, man ended up being treated like an animal himself.

III. BIRTH OF AN IDEOLOGY: TRANSHUMANISM

A classical understanding of perfectibility, dating from the eighteenth century, is the idea that man can improve and perfect himself by education and other forms of self betterment; but this idea was abandoned and criticized. What prevailed was the notion of indefinite improvement aimed at ultimate positive transformation of the the human condition.

Transhumanism was born out of this desire to forge a perfect man. The followers of this new philosophical and scientific movement wanted to use all means of technology to enhance the capabilities of the human. There were many transhumanists worldwide, but North American and especially Silicon Valley futurologists had incommensurate influence on transhumanist thought from the beginning with an ideologically libertarian approach.

IV. BIO TECHNOLOGY

At the time the biggest problem was not imagining the future of technology, but convincing people of what already existed. Military research had already changed their lives with the birth of the Internet, and its agencies shifted focused to biological programs and human improvement. In only a few decades time, the exponential growth of technology produced extreme interfaces between the human body and machine.

At first, most tests were conducted on the disabled to garner attention and unlock budgets, but its applications quickly multiplied. Non-surgical self-augmentation created a mass market for all kinds of accessories, positioning the human body at the latest peak level of consumerism. The disabled became more efficient than the valids and quickly began surpassing them.

What was once called the computer, cellphone, or tablet was already a form of improvement for transhumanists because these digital prosthesis had become external organs and a part of human identity. Prosthesis was initially for medical reasons, mechanization of method of survival.

But the speed of technological change became so fast that partial fusion was necessary for the brain. it could retain it’s original biological state and face the wave of information that would soon overwhelm. Machines crept into the body, merging with the organs and senses, giving birth to a new human race: the post human transcendent man.

V. IMMORTALITY

Technological evolution of man’s biologically fallible body allowed humanity to consider death as never before. Advancements in brain imaging research dangled indefinite longevity by safeguarding awareness on digital media. In other words, a promise of immortality. For mankind, death was always considered tragedy, but for a long time knowledge was not required to live indefinitely.

Exceeding humanity meant integrating into the network, no longer limiting the human body soely to hand-typed communication using the internet, but becoming part of the network itself by integrating with the Machine world. A world only acceptable on account of promised immortality.

VI. RELIGION

Science and technology led to the transcendence of human limitation and power to overcome suffering, illness, depression and other adverse conditions. It became a religious substitute men could not possibly ignore masked in a cloak of rationalism. However, if science is emancipatory, scientism is enslaving. Those in control of large dense information networks weren’t as interested in world rule as technologically fueled life improvement. but access to increasingly sophisticated and expensive technology eventually stopped serving the common good and became elitist sport.

A violent class division thus formed, on the crux of a fierce political debate. There was no need to exterminate people, they will disappear by themselves because they are smaller and therefore doomed to disappear. This is the accepted fracture, the hyphenation, and this is what led to the Great Schism.

…say what!?

The group has been releasing a series of cryptic videos containing Hebrew text and images/videos of random technological and apocalyptic scenes leaving us with little to no actual information.

Well, we are happy to announce that part of this mystery is finally coming to a close. In their most recent video release, Phuture Doom is actually announcing a release of a full-length album which will be released on October 15, 2013 via OWSLA Records.

Phuture Doom Announce Full-Length Album:

In this video, we’re given most of the same clips we’ve been seeing in the previous string of videos released within the past few weeks. One of the most curious things is the massive amounts of Hebrew text found within these videos, as previously mentioned. Anyone out there who can translate those messages for us?

In terms of the song samples and what is going to be on this full-length album, it seems as though it will be comprised mainly of songs featured on their Nightfall EP which was released earlier this year.

If this video is the last to come before the release, here’s what we can assume will be the track list (in no particular order):

Mach 100

Black Acid Rain

Burn the Knowledge

Phuneral Phuture

Doom Terror Corps

Han Breaks

Paradise Lost

Stay tuned for more updates! There are almost undoubtedly going to be some…

UPDATE:

Phuture Doom, has instead released the following video outlying “The Book of Nightfall,” the “first published scripture of Phuturism.”

Who is Phuture Doom? Well, it’s hard to say WHO they are as in who is producing this genre-bending EDM music. What we do know is that the group or solo act is being produced via Skrillex’s monster label OWSLA, which makes sense because of their hard-hitting, nu metal/dubstep sound. Whoever is behind Phuture Doom is doing one hell of a job making sure they stay a secret, making the music just that more eerie.

Sowed by the occult hand of the dead city, Phuture Doom arose devoid of all but the curse.

In fact, everything about Phuture Doom is a bit strange. Looking at their website could force one into a seizure. Their music videos are haunting and their advertising/marketing strategies almost try to deny their audience of any information — awesome.

The most recent Facebook campaign included a picture (below) with this as the caption: “Tom̨orr̡o͏w͠ Be̛g̷ińs҉ ́The H̀un͘t For T͟rut͡h͟.”

(Tomorrow Begins The Hunt For Truth)

After a bit of research, we were able to determine that the photo is an edited version of one found on the Wikepdia page for Frigg — a goddess of Norse paganism whose name is the origin of the word “Friday.” She was said to have had the power of prophecy but never revealed what she knew…

A day later, Phuture Doom posted this picture:

(Forbidden Knowledge Lies Within A Coiled Labyrinth Riddles The Future. Look Closely. You May Find A Key)

Take a closer look. On the bottom left corner is a QR code which leads you to this site with the cryptic message reading, “Frigg Sees The Future Of All Men But Never Reveals… Except On Her Holly Day.”

We’re no detectives here at Just Noise to Me, but if we had to guess we’d say you can expect a new EP from Phuture Doom tomorrow, August 2, 2013.

UPDATE:

The group has now released this INSANE video which appears to be a mashup of their possible new EP “Error Activate”…? Throughout the video there are symbols and nonsense for subtitles, until a barely readable title appears. Ones we caught were “Mach 100,” “Black Acid Reign,” and “Burn the Knowledge.” Two of those songs already appear on the Nightfall EP, so we’re still not exactly sure what this video is for…

UPDATED UPDATE:

Yet another video has been released on Phuture Doom’s Facebook page. Much like our last update, this video is another string of songs we can only assume will be released all together on a new EP…? Again, this is all in question as the group continues to dazzle us with their mysterious background and all around purpose!
