Phoenix Lights Festival Announces Final Headlining Roster For Inaugural Event

Phoenix, Arizona could be the next place to establish the newest up-and-coming festival destination in the country. With Las Vegas hosting EDC‘s largest U.S. installment and southern California being the home of both Coachella and HARD Summer, it seems as only a matter of time before Phoenix taps into the festival market. The Valley of the Sun is preparing to host the first annual Phoenix Lights Festival on March 22nd, rounding off their headliner announcement with a star-studded cast of performers. The event’s inaugural bill will be lead by Hardwell, Robin Schulz, Route 94, Lane 8, and most recently confirmed, Canadian bass gods Zeds Dead.

Although the full roster of acts has yet to be announced, Phoenix Lights is already promising a colorful variety of performances from some of dance music’s most sought-after performers. The newly announced event is promising to bring leading-edge designs, interactive art, and vibrant lighting displays to the mix. Lead by a very impressive list of headliners, Phoenix Lights is gearing up to deliver what could grow into the next big west coast event.

EDC Las Vegas 2014 Complete Lineup

Well, it’s finally here. One of the most highly anticipated events in dance music is less than a month away and the lineup has finally been released. There’s really not much to say about the lineup — it’s pretty much as incredible as anyone would imagine. With artists like A-Trak, Alex Metric, Borgore, Chromeo, Claude Vonstroke, Gladiator, Martin Garrix, Paper Diamond, Protohype, Tchami, and Trippy Turtle, there’s something for everyone at this year’s EDC. “Bingo Players Will Always Be Plural”

Following the passing of Paul Bäumer of the Dutch house duo Bingo Players, we were a little baffled by their appearance on the EDC Mexico lineup.

Today, Maarten Hoogstraten, the other half of the duo, has released a heartfelt statement on their website claiming that Bingo Players will live on.

Dear All,

Firstly, i want to thank each and every one of you for the massive amount of support and kindness shown in the past month. I was overwhelmed with the heartfelt messages and the stories shared by people… thank you, it means a huge amount to me and Paul’s family and friends.

Many people have asked if they can donate to a charity in Paul’s name. He had asked for those that wanted to please be directed to KWF (The Dutch Cancer Society) –www.kwf.nl

So, understandably there are lots of questions you all may have about what’s going to happen next. Well, the first thing I want everyone to know is that I’m still continuing Bingo Players. We’ve come too far to stop now and Paul’s spirit will always be a part of anything I do as Bingo Players.

Before he passed, Paul and I spoke and he made it clear he wanted me to continue Bingo Players. He and I have worked so hard to get to where we are, and it feels as though our journey had only really just begun. There’s so much more ahead for Bingo Players.

I want to continue because I love what I do and I want to do it for both of us. There is a lot of music that we worked on together before Paul passed away that will be coming out in the next months and years, more on that soon!

Bingo Players will always be plural.

We’re happy to know that Bingo Players will continue to funk around the festival world, and bring us fresh, euro-house beats. We’re excited to see what Hoogstraten has to show us in the coming months.

Insomniac Announces EDC Mexico Lineup

Insomniac’s flagship event, Electric Daisy Carnival, heads over to Mexico on March 15 and 16. Arriving in just two months, they have announced the performers for their debut EDC in Mexico City. This robust Phase 1 lineup features electronic acts such as Avicii, Baauer, Mat Zo, Showtek, Steve Angello, What So Not, Zeds Dead, and many more.

HARDFEST has just announced that they will be hosting an Arena at EDC Mexico featuring Alex Metric, Baauer, The Bloody Beetroots, Boys Noize, Branchez, Cajmere, Clockwork, Cory Enemy, Destructo, DJ Snake, Flux Pavilion, Gorgon City, Wax Motif, What So Not and Zeds Dead. EDC Vegas 2014 Official Announcement Video

The time has come, once again. The Electric Daisy Carnival is right around the corner and the announcement video has been officially released. The video features more than just your standard recap or announcement video. In this announcement, we get to see the founder of Insomniac talk about his history of event producing, and how special EDC is.

Top 5 Live Sets of 2013

2013 has been an incredible year for EDM festivals across the world. There were more EDM acts at Coachella then ever before, EDC was a massive success (compared to last year’s epic fail), and HARD Summer had yet another completely sold out weekend. With so many awesome sets there could only be a few that stood above the rest. Below is our countdown of the Top 5 Live Sets of 2013. Enjoy!

5. A-Trak Live at Electriz Zoo

Despite the festival being shut down early due to drug related incidents, Electric Zoo still had some of the best artists in the world together for hours of EDM. Easily one of the best performances of the festival was Fool’s Gold co-owner and world class DJ, A-Trak. Mixing and scratching were only part of this set, as A-Trak played a set that was completely all over the place in terms of genres and artists. From Oliver to DJ Snake, this set was covered end to end with hits from all over the EDM spectrum. “Big Bad Wolf” and other songs that would later be released on Duck Sauce’s Duck Tape EP were some of the songs that brought the funk to A-Trak’s set. A special reworking of Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” was also featured, along with a track from JNTM favorite Sleepy Tom. What A-Trak set would be complete without “Heads Will Roll”? A-Trak completed his set with infamous remix along with over a minute of intense scratching that got this DJ to wear he is today.

4. Hardwell Live at Ultra

One of the biggest names in the festival circuit world wide, Hardwell had yet another unbelievable set at this year’s Ultra Music Festival in Miami, Florida. Known as one of the biggest names in Dutch Progressive/Electro House, Hardwell is more than just the #1 DJ in the world according to DJ Mag’s Top 100. With incredibly consistency, Hardwell completely destroyed the stage at Ultra, involving the crowd as much as possible. The best part of Hardwell’s set was his ability to combine so many songs together. Using samples from Daft Punk’s “Harder Better Faster Stronger” and Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” Hardwell does a fantastic job of turning out song after song full of bounce and energy. The coolest part about this set was the fact that Hardwell played right as the sun was going down in Miami Beach. With an incredible sunset as his backdrop, the show quickly went from a day time rave to a night time party.

3. Clockwork Live at EDC

Alter ego of Trap superstar R.L. Grime, Clockwork is another name to have risen to the top this year. With his incredibly high energy and strictly Big Room repertoire, Clockwork was a perfect fit for this year’s EDC. Los Angeles based producer proved his chops to the festival circuit this year, especially with this live set from the Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas, Nevada. Throwing in a couple Trap breakdowns and Moombahton beats thrown into the mix, Clockwork had a perfect blend of original tracks as well as crowd favorites. With consumers jumping from genre to genre, it’ll be interesting to see how Henry Steinway performs in 2014, and whether he’ll favor his festival favorite Clockwork alias, or heavy Trap god R.L. Grime.

2. Dillon Francis Live at HARD Summer

Easily one of the most fun sets of the entire year, Dillon Francis‘ set at HARD Summer was one for the books. Starting his set off with Daft Punk’s “Doin’ it Right,” this set was nonstop hit after hit. Shouting things like, “If you ain’t down with Moombahton, you’re at the wrong stage,” and “This is seriously one of the most special experiences in my entire life,” this set was more than just a mix. It was a heartfelt live performance by one of the fastest growing artists in the EDM community right now. Playing classic Dillon Francis hits along with some throwback Hip Hop jams and never-before-heard remixes, this set was an incredible combination of the past, present, and future of music. Some notable moments include a special appearance by Flosstradamus (who, along with Dillon make up “Dillstradamaus“) and a short clip of “Forever Young” by Alphaville.

1. Dog Blood Live at Coachella

Not including their appearance at HARD New Year’s Eve 2013, this was Dog Blood‘s first live appearance. After the release of their two-track EP, no one really knew what to expect of the super group comprised of Skrillex and Boys Noize. This hour long set proved to everyone that these two were onto something huge. Dropping tracks from their respective labels along with tracks that would later appear on the group’s next EP, this live set is packed with hard hitting, never-before-heard tunes. Ranging from Big Room House, to Acid Bass/German Techno, to Trap, to some super dirty Dubstep, this Dog Blood set set the bar HIGH for other festival performers. Dog Blood would spend the rest of the year playing festivals all over the world, melting faces at every stop.

Artist Spotlight: Drezo

Rooted in Phoenix and now based out of Los Angeles, producer/DJ Drezo is without a doubt on the rise to stardom. With countless mixes, remixes, and originals, Drezo is only getting started. Drezo was recently selected to perform an hour long set at EDC Orlando after winning the Insomniac Discovery Project for his original track “Peak.”

His humble but extremely determined attitude makes him one of the most fun artists to follow in the world of up-and-coming producers, which made us curious to find out more about what it’s like to be Drezo.

Just Noise to Me: What got you into producing? Was there one song or artist that made you want to start producing?

Drezo: I was DJing for about a year locally in Arizona and knew I wasn’t going to stand out unless I started producing my own tunes. There wasn’t one particular artist, it was just the whole scene at the time that inspired me.

JNTM: Who are you favorite artists right now? EDM or not.

Drezo: Nom De Strip, Gesaffelstein, Tony Junior, Sleepy Tom, and countless others. There are SO many amazing up-and-coming artists that people need to start focusing on.

JNTM: As genres come in and out of trending, where do you see the electronic movement moving towards?

Drezo: It’s really hard to say. People like what they like. And music, like fashion, is always changing. What’s popular today is dead in a month. Every genre is evolving in their own ways though and I think that’s the most exciting part.

JNTM: How would you describe your style of music in your own words?

Drezo: The stuff I’ve put out the last year would probably be classified as big room, sawtooth, in-your-face shit. However, I’m sitting on a lot of new minimal electro/techno/funky tunes that I’m excited to get out to people. It’s a whole different side to my productions, and way more underground sounding.

JNTM: To you, what’s the most important part about being an independent artist on the rise? What are some of the biggest challenges? What’s the most enjoyable? Is there a mantra of yours you tell yourself to stay focused?

Drezo: The most important part would be to stay humble. Keep working. I mean what else is there really? When people ask me for advice on how to achieve success, I simply tell them make good music. There’s no real secret. Work your ass off until you have the ability to make good tunes others will want to play.

JNTM: What advice would you give to someone who wants to do what you’re doing?

Drezo: Make music constantly. Work on music for 12 hours a day. Learn the history and past of the music you’re interested in. Oh, and keep making music.

JNTM: How have you grown as a producer since you first got started?

Drezo: The creative process, or at least mine, is directly proportional to how well I know the tools to shape my craft. As one learns more in their DAW or whatever, creativity and inspiration start coming in waves, and the studio process can become very exciting. I try to learn something new every day, whether it be sound design or audio engineering. So as time goes on, things just gradually get better.

JNTM: What’s your favorite part about being an up-and-coming producer at what might as well be the height of EDM?

Drezo: All of it, I appreciate everything that comes my way. It’s truly already been a blessing.

JNTM: What can we expect for Drezo as far as touring, another EP, remixes, etc?

Drezo: All my tour dates and ticket info can be found on my Facebook, I will be opening for MAKJ, Mord Fustang, and Whiiite this September at various clubs around the US, as well as performing on The Groove Cruise LA which travels to Mexico. My new remix for Sex Panther was just released Monday on Beatport, and I have a LOT of new music coming out. Some will be free while others will be official releases. JNTM: If you could have any job in the world besides DJing/Producing, what would it be and why?

Drezo: Probably a professional skateboarder. It’s the only thing I almost love as much as music.
